Southend have had a good mix this year. Not sure I have seen the
same ref twice.
So far been impressed with Farai Hallam and Robert Massry-Ellis.

Reading FC (First Team) v Bolton Wanderers FC (First Team)
Football League 1
Referee: Backhouse, Anthony Ward, Gavin
Assistant Referee: James, Alex
Assistant Referee: Hyde, Robert
Fourth Official: O'Connor, Jamie
They must have heard me. Gavin Ward's last Bolton game was back
in October 2022.

Michael Barlow - Harrogate v Crewe
A referee who I’ve never seen or heard of before. He did really
well. I’ll be happy to see him on a Crewe game again and I
expect to see him on the EFL fixtures more often. Well done.

Tranmere Rovers FC (First Team) v Colchester United FC (First
Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Oldham, Scott
Assistant Referee: Pettitt, Joseph
Assistant Referee: Simpson, Joe
Fourth Official: Hughes, Kenwyn
Have to be honest my main focus in this match was on football
rather than refereeing issues, after another woeful performance
from Rovers led to a thoroughly deserved defeat. That said a bit
of a mixed bag from Scott Oldham today. There were a couple of
occasions in the opening moments when Colchester players just
deliberately ran into their opponent, more than a shoulder
charge, which he didn't consider an infringement. My
recollection was that there was something of that ilk in the
build-up to the Colchester penalty, although the highlights
don't assist, so could be my mind playing tricks or the incident
happening earlier in the passage of play. No question about the
penalty itself, the Colchester player came round the blindside
of Wood and was tripped. However, Mr Oldham should have at least
had a word, some might have produced a YC for Taylor's
subsequent goading of the home fans. There was an incident
involving the referee when a Colchester player appeared to get a
YC for coming onto the pitch without permission, involving some
time sorting out, which was not reflected in the 6 added
minutes. 2+3 YCs overall, no real issue with any of them,
although Mr Oldham seemed to blow up more than usual when I
have previously seen him in action. Good fitness and positioning
throughout and seemed willing to explain his decisions, while
never looking in danger of losing control.

Agreed. We had him for what I believe was his FL debut on the
season opening game and again last weekend and both times he did
well. Surprising that when other NL refs were being given trial
games in the second half of last season that he wasn't given a
game then, perhaps injured?

Thanks for the report, I didn’t make the journey with rail
replacement and a long trip to Carlisle in 2 weeks! Very happy
with the result though, albeit Tranmere do look bang in trouble.
Looks a penalty on the TV cam, but it did look like the fans
were more unhappy with the award than you’d expect. Also quite
surprised that Taylor didn’t get booked, that seems a real coin
toss as to whether referees sanction for it. I’m not sure on the
particulars on why the Iandolo yellow took so much discussion,
my only guess was because he left the field “of his own accord”
(tackled off rather than walked off). But that it a pure guess.
It did look messy officiating from Scott and 4O though.
