A BACKHOUSE - Burnley v Sunderland

Well, looks like the foul was outside the box from Egan-Riley on
Isidor, and it should have been a free kick and a red card for
DOGSO, not a penalty and the yellow.
I have to say though it was extremely tight.
Other than that, Backhouse has had hardly anything to do.
I hope the Burnley fans are enjoying Parkerball… I’ve lost count
how many 0-0’s they have had this season!

Not sure about the second penalty either… a dreadfully poor end
to the evening for Backhouse and has lost control with the push
and shove and the cards.
A real shame as he had done well up to the two penalty
incidents.
Also Ballard should be off for two yellows after the late
challenge at the end of the game.

Keeper shouldn't have been on the pitch to save the 2nd, time
wasting on both should have been 2 yellows

First penalty looked outside. One of those which the contact is
outside but the player falls inside which normally equals
penalty. Trafford should have been booked there for me, why is
he taking his gloves off? That’s clearly time wasting.
Second penalty for me is correct. Defender slides in, attacker
chops back and defender takes him out so I think that’s a clear
penalty.
Agree that he’s lost a little bit of control. I think it shows
that he’s not had much experience with these types of top of the
table games. By no means a criticism of Backhouse cause he will
only learn from the last ten minutes.

First penalty the foul was outside the box so should have been
free kick and red card for defender DOGSO (Ar2 could have helped
him out there).
Goalkeeper should have been carded for delaying the restart as
soon as he went off the field and took his gloves off.
Second penalty some might say soft but correct for me.
Goalkeeper correctly carded, but doubt if he would have messed
around if on a yellow. It would have been difficult for the
referee to not allow him treatment, i guess we are going to see
keepers pulling that stunt right, left and centre.
Second penalty should have been retaken as goalkeeper moved off
his line before the kick was taken (AR2 again should be getting
involved).
Goalkeepers get away with huge amounts of s…housery at penalty
kicks and have done for quite a while, this issue needs sorting
with harsh quick punishments.
Ballard should have seen a second yellow in the dying embers,
two wrongs dont make a right.
A reasonable night for Backhouse until the KMIs

what you get when you play SG2 roulette and not allocate a SG 1
to a big game

While at the game I felt there was inconsistency this take is
way over the top.
One inconsistency I disliked was stopping the game for an
injured player down off the pitch but not a few minutes later
when there was a sunderland player down on it, i dont think it
should have been stopped either time but it definitely shouldn't
have been the first one only of the two

I have just watched the second penalty award again and the
referee said that it was for handball ---you can lip read what
he is saying to the Burnley players.
Unbelievable. However, he did miss quite a lot of things for
both sides during the game by playing on instead of awarding
free kicks and this is becoming more frustrating in every game
these days. Let the game flow by all means, however, do not
ignore blatant wrongdoings because you lose control.

How many more times do we have to say it. Any appointment is
based on merit of recent performances. I could almost 100% say
you haven’t watched Backhouse referee his most recent three
games. You have no idea how well he’s performing. The PGMOL
wouldn’t appoint him if his recent performances didn’t deserve
credit, same with Andrew Kitchen on the derby a few weeks back.
One bad game does not make them a bad referee. As referees lower
down the chain, we don’t watch his performance and say ‘I could
have done better than him tonight’ because as referees we should
know how difficult the job is.
In your opinion, we might as well get rid of SG2 and have SG1
cover the Prem and the Championship and then we will get even
more burnout and more injuries to top officials and then we
won’t have any officials that are capable. Like I said in my
other post, Backhouse will learn from tonight and I, for one,
hope he performs well in weeks to come. If James Bell and David
Webb have poor games in their respective derbies does that mean
that they’re bad officials? Not a chance because they have been
in SG2 for a number of seasons are well-seasoned referees who
can handle these big games. No appointment is a roulette because
every referee who is in SG2 can handle a championship game with
good effect.
