       > Yep that's him. Interesting that there's a whole bunch of
possible Wembley games that he's not listed as linesman for, I
wonder does it leave anything else that could've been televised?
I wish now I'd have discussed it with him before it was too
late. My eldest brother might have known more as well but sadly
       he passed away in 2022.

I'm sure I remember some Youth/Schools matches at Wembley being
on the TV. One, which for some strange reason sticks in my mind,
was refereed by Alex Lees. So it may be that your late father
was involved with one of those. How could you go about finding
out ? On this site we have some excellent football archivists
but if they can't help then perhaps an approach to the English
FA. Whether they keep records of all Match Officials
appointments over the years is, though, a moot point.

England Football Online is well worth a look as it contains a
section on England Schools Internationals at Wembley (and
elswhere) in the 1960s and 1970s. Some fascinating names of old
including Kenny Sansom and Clive Allen in days before they
became famous. The match against Scotland on 9th June 1973
(noted above by JT) was the first to be televised live on ITV
World of Sport, and the annual Schools International at Wembley
was apparently shown live on ITV for two decades after, although
I don't remember this. As a headteacher and EFL referee, Alex
Lees was probably in a prime position to referee one of these
matches (no neutral refs in those days), but although there are
programmes for some of these matches, I have not been able to
find any details of match officials other than a 'W Brown of
Manchester' who was i/c of one of the internationals and may or
may not have been a teacher. One of the last Schools
Internationals to be played at Wembley was refereed by George
Courtney who was of course another Headteacher.
Andy - was your dad a teacher by any chance?
Not sure about the linesmen for these internationals, but I
think we saw a photo on RTR of a referee and linesmen at the
centre circle before a game at Wembley and one of the linesmen
was wearing glasses. I cannot remember whether this was a
Schools International, but in days when Class 1 refs were barred
from wearing glasses, this was highly unusual.
       Good luck with the research.

I believe I met your Dad at a Cambridge University refs
association dinner about 1970, when I was a student-we used to
get line appointments to University friendlies with a Class 1
ref appointed by the county FA. I don't think I ran the line to
him but I believe he was at at least one of our dinners, where
the guest speaker was Ken Aston. I also recall him on the line
at Cambridge Utd v Peterborough in Utd's first season in the
league, that would in 1970/71, with (I think) Danny Lyden in the
       middle.
