A Taylor - Newcastle v Aston Villa

1 red card and 2 Villa backroom staff red carded too for
comments made in the tunnel. Looking at the BBC live reporting
you would think a great injustice had been dished out when
Taylor sent off Duran but watching the match live I think Taylor
got it right. VAR was never going to overturn it, a raised boot
on the back of a Newcastle defender. Now we have Villa players
play acting trying to equalise the numbers. Taylor won't fall
for that and so far he hasn't.

Definitely a red card for me. Taylor is in good form at the
moment.

Pundits agreed red but keep referring to soft yellows early on.
Cash was booked after a simple foul to prevent a move
developing. What commentators failed to note was that it was his
second similar offence in a short space of time.
Newcastle aren't afraid of getting stuck in.

Taylor indicated it was his 2nd foul when he booked him
Correct decision for red card for Duran, hope he gets an extra
game ban for kicking the water bottle on the touchline, moany
childish prat.
Correct to disallow Bruno goal as Villa player kicked ball at
Bruno hit him on arm and went in.
Thought Taylor did ok, few early yellows seemed to calm game
down.
Just to correct OP it was Jason Tindall (Newcastle Assistant)
and a Villa Head of Analysis who was sent off at HT.

Match of the Day pundits felt that the red card was harsh and I
am inclined to agree. It may be overturned. Duran's left foot
slips and so Duran falls and his right foot has nowhere to go.
VAR perhaps should have been less hasty and recommended an OFR.

Sometimes pundits do offer sensible and constructive comments
and I too tend to agree with the interpretation they gave on the
red card incident.
That said, there is so much inconsistency as to when VAR does or
does not intervene, particularly with regard to SFP or VC, I'm
not surprised there was no OFR advised in this case.
Just to take up ajb95's point about Anthony Taylor being in good
form: personally I think that needs some qualification. I agree
his game control and player management have been very good, but
I do feel some of the kmi decisions have not been of the same
standard. It's only a couple of weeks since he gave no cards of
either colour to Caicedo and Kulusevski, when for the latter at
least he had an unobstructed clear view of the elbow. Today's
was perhaps more questionable but if he'd gone with a YC, I
doubt VAR would have intervened.
And in case I'm accused of bias, last season (not so much this),
Michael Oliver made some kmi errors that were disappointing for
an elite fifa referee despite his overall game management being
ok. Because of their considerable experience, both these
referees generally have the respect of players which probably
helps when controversial decisions arise.

On initial viewing i can ustand why Taylor went to the red card
for Duran.
I do see the MOTD pundits case too, especially Shearers.
I am not sure Villa will be successful if they appeal.
Schar was lucky not to see yellow for leaving a bit on Duran in
that foul.
All i would say is that i have seen far worse incidents in games
that Taylor has refereed go unpunished or sanctioned with a
yellow card.
Was consistent early on in yellow carding Cash and Trippier, but
a little inconsistent
In his interpretation of fouls during the rest of the game.
As a Villa fan wasnt expecting positive from the game points
wise as we never do well at Sid James Park unless of course the
magpies start fighting amongst themselves (Barry Knight wore his
red card out that night)

I suppose you could say that, from a Villa POV, it was the usual
Carry On 😃
