Missed RC.
I can only guess that Tierney went to pop the kettle on when
this happened! Jones has no excuse either if he's facing towards
the play as he's only 5 yards away.

Looks to me as if he's out of control and endangered an
opponent. May only have caught him with 1 foot but it seemed a
fair amount of force and quite high.

It very does seem that the perception of serious foul play is
much much higher this year and it feels like every week we’re
having a discussion on here saying ‘should’ve been a red card’
etc.
We’ve gone from ‘soft’ red cards (like Curtis Jones v Tottenham
e.g) to ones that feel stonewall (this incident and Kulusevski
elbow v Chelsea). Whether this higher bar has been caused by
feedback about ‘too many red cards’ last season, I don’t know.
On this incident, it looks as if he’s clearly left the ground
and catches the player above the ankle with force. To me that
meets the threshold for excessive force and SFP so I’m very
surprised that this hasn’t been overturned

To qualify my sarcastic involvement above - to me it is an
obvious red card and clearly breaches the threshold of SFP - it
is only luck that the first foot misses and the second does not
break the players leg
Previously we were told 2 footed jump tackle, no contact, was a
YC.
Any contact with the player and it was to be red
Had this been red no one would have been surprised

It appears more and more each week that referees are not able to
recognise SFP both on the field and in the var room.
I think this may well be down the the powers that be deciding
that there were too many red cards in the past.
Under the present regime it seems that we have to keep 11 v 11
on the field at all costs which to me sends a very poor message
to grass roots football.
I wonder where these interpretations would lie if a player got a
serious career threatening injury and wanted to take legal
action.
Nowadays even a high jumper cant get over the high bar.

That’s a standard red card that has to be spotted on field never
mind the var getting it wrong.completely out of control

A wild tackle which is a clear-as-day RC that a top ref with a
good view should get right on the field.
No evidence to back it up, but I think this is a consequence of
VAR. Refs are now often giving a YC thinking the VAR can save
them, if needed, but VARs, under pressure to maintain a ‘high
bar’, are staying out of it, if at all justifiable. It’s
creating a gap between the two that a few recent incidents are
falling into.
All getting too over complicated with VAR. Refs should just get
on with the job, giving the right decision on the field, with
VAR simply able to come in if they (as another senior ref) think
a mistake has been made.
Also, the recent documentaries show the constant chatter over
the coms kit - a lot of it completely unnecessary imo. Too me,
refs have too much going on other than just concentrating on the
onfield decision in front of them and it’s leading to too many
mistakes.

For me the height makes this clear SFP and it's disappointing
VAV have elected not to intervene. Should be spotted in real
time.

This is why I don’t rate Jones as a ref. The likes of brooks,
barrott and Madley are streets ahead
