Similar story in lower level rugby. It's a trend that has been
       going on for some years.

Societal problem which has spread into all sport.
People do not show respect and are not being taught to show
respect, therefore, you have a society where a lot of people do
not know how to show respect.
Without the knowledge to show respect his means that you then
have no self respect and without self respect the concept of
society breaks down and we are seeing this in so many ways.
Edited:no politics please , completely irrelevant to this
       forum.

Line of Duty Star and OBE holder Stephen Graham is widely
reported today to have subjected a referee to a tirade of abuse
at local level. If true, he should consider returning his OBE.

Well that seems a bit of a leap bearing in mind some of the
rogues sitting in the House of Lords with higher honours than an
OBE but point taken; those in the public eye could do with
       setting an example.
That said, I am not sure I would have been able to keep a
straight face if an angry, scouse actor had lost his rag and
called me a Tellytubby while I was refereeing a step seven game.

A case in Lancashire where a player barged a referee to the
floor in a Sunday League game, led to the player being suspended
for seven (7) years this week.
We have to be tough on violence not only towards referees, but
       in general.

Bit of an overreaction. He used abusive words based on what was
reported, but he hasn't threatened the referee or used any kind
of violence, and went back to the bar when the referee refused
to restart the game until he had left. It was also reported
that he phoned the referee after the game to apologise. I know
we live in a cancel culture, but this hardly feels like grounds
       for returning an OBE.
He was there as a spectator at what looks to be a semi-pro
ground with a pitch barrier, so I doubt the FA can take any
action against him given he wasn't a "participant". All they
can really do is charge the club for failing to control their
supporters. If they took action every time a spectator shouted
abuse at a referee they would need a much bigger discipline
       department.
