I haven't seen this game, I am off football due to supporting
Wolves, but I would argue that our best referee missed a
straight red for an elbow to the head. Therefore, what is the
threshold for a red card these days? Is it fair to criticise a
novice referee for failing to act on sfp when other examples are
there before him? PGMOL appears to be losing the faith of
supporters, there is perhaps a disconnect between what we expect
and what referees are giving.

Whilst, I hope, getting your point I don't think Tony, or any
other SG1 Official could reasonably be described as "novice"

The word novice was used to emphasise the difference in
experience between AT and Harrington. The latter is not a FIFA
referee and has refereed just 27 matches I think. AT did 27 in
just one season. It is not a term to devalue Harrington in any
way, nor is it derogatory but in Premiership terms he is still a
relative novice. His star is rising and I think he will do well.
My point remains, referees are not willing to clamp down on SFP
with VAR sticking with the on field decision. Rightly so, the
onfield referee must get the decision right first time.

Feel like he may be too old for FIFA. Pretty sure I saw a
comment on here saying that he was 37 when promoted to SG1,
meaning that he would be about 40 now.

I was at the game and have just seen MOTD. That confirmed my
opinion at the time that the Fulham player should have had a red
card for that challenge on Robertson.

I have to say that I’m with DublinRef and not entirely convinced
by the DOGSO red card, with an emphasis that the ball was played
to Jimenez and he had a chance to score just as Wilson was
cleaned out. Play then brought back and the red issued.
IIRC if there is a red card offence then no advantage should be
played period?
I’ve not seen the other challenges to comment on, but it sounds
like Diop and Pereira were the culprits to escape sanction.

I have watched the DOGSO Red a number of times now and I just
don’t see how it can be a DOGSO when the touch from the Fulham
player was so heavy that it went across to his team mate who
then promptly had an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity and
inexplicably opted to try and chip the keeper rather than bury
it into the net.
If the touch is so heavy it moves to another player some
distance away then the player does not have control and will not
be likely to regain control of the ball.
IF Fulham score from that very same shot then does Robertson
still get sent off? If the answer to that is anything other than
yes then he should not be sent off because the Fulham player
fluffed their lines.
I would be very surprised if this is not appealed by Liverpool
and subsequently overturned.

Not a good day for Harrington, never makes me believe that he is
in control or is strong enough to deal with the big games / big
teams.
Robertson was a good call for DOGSO, easy to be fair.
But how Perriera is not sent off !! Wild / excessive force clear
red and how he only went yellow is beyond me. Harrington and VAR
should hang head in shame at that decision.
Harrington needs to be stronger and not scared to go red because
if his mind says some of those tackles just yellow it’s totally
poor officiating.

On Ref Watch, the two tackles which were not punished by red
were deemed correct by only producing a yellow. I am inclined to
agree and would not criticise the referee here. The Robertson
red card was felt to be incorrect although both pundits said
that on first viewing they thought red. DG went through the laws
and the factors to be considered and consequently felt that it
was not a case of DOGSO. I agree but DG did say that the referee
should have blown for the offence by Robertson and not played
advantage. Had he done so, he would have gained control of the
situation. By allowing play to continue, other factors come in
which cloud the issue. DG made a similar comment in another
game, that is blow early and do not let the situation develop.
Perplexed about VAR not intervening regarding the DOGSO as there
were clear and obvious reasons not to sanction the red card. The
ball went too far from the attacker, the ball was not moving
towards goal and IIRC there was a covering defender? So
Harrington got the red card wrong imho, was let down by VAR but
he did get the other big decisions correct in so far as they
were entirely justifiable.
Modified to add that Dale Johnson felt that the red card for
DOGSO was incorrect, basically for the reasons DG gave. Will
Liverpool appeal I wonder?
