ALFIE AND RCG

Where are our esteemed rugby posters??
Have greatly missed the usual in depth and balanced review of
the autumn internationals and no post yet about the appointments
for the European Rugby games this weekend. I am feeling bereft!

Moving house takes up more time than it should!
In the main I thought most of the referees did well, especially
some of the less experienced ones.
The SH "crew" officiated well: BOK and AG had solid games at the
Allianz, sorry Twickenham
Big Nika had a v good game in Paris, his calmness impresses me
more and more each time.
The English contingent were good: Ridley with his first major
appointment, KD MC and LP performed as expected
Felt a bit for Craig Evans as both his games involved teams
playing at very different paces/styles. Fiji offended a lot in
opening 20 mins which led to a number of YCs; Japan were no
saints at Twickenham. Meant more focus on the officials and
involving the TMO.
Piradi is coming on nicely and whilst I thought there were
others ahead of Doleman, he did ok
I like the fact the aerial contests have been opened up, as
although there may be more kicking it is producing broken play
with tap backs and dropped catches
Still not sure the foul play review system is quite there. To me
there were at least 2 incidents deemed YC when I thought RC and
I am still to be fully convinced on the 20 minute RC
World Rugby will be very pleased with how the games went. Will
be interesting to see who the 15 are for the 6Ns

Don't expect comments on the European cup competitions from me.
If I cannot see them on TNT then that is it. ERC may have had to
take the money from Premier but it has imho reduced the value of
the competition.
Agree with RCG above, Piradi still to convince me but he wasn't
bad.

As the 6N is a shorter event, not everyone will get an
opportunity. I'm 99% certain we will see the following officials
(unless they are unavailable/injured).
1. Ben O Keeffe
2. Angus Gardner
3. Nic Berry
4. Karl Dickson
5. Luke Pearce
6. Matt Carley
7. Paul Williams
8. Nika Amashukeli
9. Pierre Brousett
10. Andy Brace
11. Andrea Piardi
12. Christophe Ridley
13. James Doleman
Then 2 from Chris Busby, Luc Ramos, Craig Evans, Holly Davidson,
Jordan Way, Morne Ferreira.
If I were to guess, Busby and Way would be the front runners for
me. However, it's also a perfect opportunity for a debut such as
Davidson on the Italy v Wales match would be perfect!!

Given that the WC is still 2 plus years off why not use this 6N
to blood some of the newer refs
To be fair we know that AG and BoK are solid (and are likely to
get Lions games) so why not rest them? Give Way, Doleman etc a
chance
Likewise with Pearce, Brace and even Carley

Because quite simply WR feel they have the backbones of their
next WC squad within the 15 from the 6 Nations coming up. If you
think about it - at least 3 of Piardi, Way, Busby Ridley,
Brousett & Doleman are in with a serious shout of refereeing in
Australia - they will all be new and that's generally about
right with WC cycles. There will also be new AR's probably
within that list below a few will make their debut's. Every WC
there is generally a surprise omission and IMO, in danger not to
make Australia would be Paul Williams & one of the established
English officials to make way for Ridley - I just don't feel we
will see 4 English referees again.

If you include the new Ro16 at RWC27 then there are 44 games
available - I think we will see an increased panel of referees
involved even as high as 8 refs @ 3 games, 10 @ 2 games
