Ben Toner. Wow. I’ve always thought that we was a stable ref
with also having championship games. If he performs like he did
yesterday in every other game, god knows why the authorities
think that he’s good.
One of the worst refereeing displays that I’ve seen at Gresty
Road. On par with Sunny Gill earlier this season tbh (so you
understand Acme if you didn’t go.)
The first 5 mins, were free kick galore. Most of them weren’t
even fouls!!! That trend continued in the awful wind… as the
Bradford goal keeper, from the 10th min onwards was starting to
time waste. I didn’t see Ben tell him to hurry or anything.
Bradford were literally throwing themselves to the floor and
they would get a foul for it! I mean, fans are there to watch
professionals play for their team and try and win.. not kids
messing round. Because that was what it felt like yesterday.
Bradford acting childish and throwing themselves around left
right and centre. Finally, with 10 mins to go before half time,
Ben realised what Bradford were doing then he stopped giving
them fouls. The massive shock at the half came when only 1
minute was added. Yes, it was 0-0 and stormy, but the goal
keeper wasted about 4 mins plus all other stoppages. My guess
was 3 mins to be added!
Second half, it didn’t get much better if worse because of his
love for a yellow card. It really must be Christmas come early
for Ben this year. He was throwing them round like confetti for
no reason. Out of the 8 yellow cards he gave throughout the
game, only 4 of them I agree with. A KMI happened when our
striker got fouled, then the Bradford player kicked the ball at
him whilst he was on the ground! This caused a lot of hassle on
the touchline and on the pitch. He sent off (correctly) the
Bradford player who caused it all by kicking the ball, then
booked a load of others off the pitch! Their manager, our
assistant manager, and one of our subs!! Worst decision of the
match came when our striker and their defender were both running
to get the ball. A 50/50 shoulder challenge happened, Bradford
player goes down… guess what the outcome was. A Bradford free
kick. This really blew my guts because that was the most
horrendous decision that he given all game. Then, he gave a free
kick against our #17 for an apparent “shirt pull.” (Well I was
looking directly at it and I didn’t see much wrong). Frustration
bubbled over with some Crewe players, and whilst they were
talking to Ben, Bradford took a quick free kick and nearly
scored from it!! 2 Crewe players were out of position, so surely
he should’ve brought it back! I could write for another hour but
there’s no point. So so incompetent and inconsistent with foul
recognition and his display of his beloved yellow card. What
positives may you ask? He had a whistle, shirt (the yellow one)
was tucked in, and he didn’t get injured!
Oh. Couple of things to add. AR1 wasn’t good either. Early first
half, Bradford player clearly heads it out right infront of him…
Bradford throw 😂

I'm told the main stand was not the place to be during the game
in view of the rain and wind direction, and play was interrupted
for a fire alert of all things. My friend said that he thought
(hoped) Ben had abandoned the game. I'm glad I stayed at home in
the warm.

The game wasn’t stopped because of the fire alert. It was at
half time just before the teams came out again. I had to move
seats further up the stand to avoid the wind and rain, and still
got wet!
