In my opinion he’s been average at best so far , inconsistent
with his cards random foul detection not quite on the scale of
“rabbit in headlights “ but not far off this is why I think
Turpin is the best French referee at the moment , hopefully
Letexier can put in a better performance in the second half

Approaching the 90th minute and it’s been a much better showing
in the second half by the French referee, penalty decisions
correct , good advantages , the kind of showing that saw him do
so well in the Euros and get the final

I thought he was simply exceptional tonight. No further words
needed (although I don’t like the Madrid penalty as there’s far
too little contact for me. The reaction of the player says it
all…)

I have to respectfully disagree with this post. I think Letexier
was very good tonight and was quick to stamp out any nonsense.
It was quite a hostile atmosphere, particularly when he gave
Madrid free kicks and not for the home side, but I didn’t think
he was that inconsistent.

For me,this was a brilliant performance by an excellent
referee.both penalties correct.dealt with dissent
consistently.even though he’s 35 you would think he’s one of the
oldest/experienced refs.top 3 refs in Europe in my opinion.

I'd rate Letexier 8/10 tonight. Both penalty decisions correct
and he was consistently good at dealing with dissent. The game
became lively early on but that was stamped out and dealt with
efficiently and he contributed to a very good match.
I did feel he was slightly off the mark with the odd foul and
card, but it must be said it was a very difficult game to
referee and I think he did better than most would manage.

I was at the game and he was truly awful. His foul detection and
card distribution was totally off tune.

I was at Anfield and was unimpressed by him. I thought at one
point in the first half he was in danger of losing control of
the game completely following a number of confusing decisions,
not least the failure to caution Modric. He had fewer difficult
decisions to make in the second half and although the Madrid
player seemed to initiate the contact for the penalty I thought
that was correct. The Liverpool penalty was straightforward.

Of all the phrases to have described his performance, ‘truly
awful’ is a bit harsh. I don’t see where all the critics have
come from. I thought foul detection was consistent, dealt with
dissent efficiently and got the pen incidents correct (despite
my previous opinion of the Madrid penalty). Ok, maybe he could
have booked Modric for that late challenge but he was far from
‘losing control’
