Must be strange for a 4th official to have to run the line as it
must have been a long time since they have done it with the way
you pick if you want to be a ref or go down specialist AR route
Strange and difficult as it is a completely different role and
required skillset. In any role, if you were asked to perform a
task you hadn't done for the past 10 years you'd probably take
time to get back up to speed, and obviously match officials
don't have that time. Being honest, the offside flag for
Leicester's goal was very poor, the attacker was well onside,
but difficult to criticise him.
I've said this before, but with all the money in the EPL I don't
understand why they don't have a reserve AR like they do in cup
finals. Doesn't need to be an AR from SG1, could be SG2 or even
a promising EFL AR, would give them valuable experience of the
match day experience.
And that would be 20 less referees for grassroots football doing
nothing nearly every week, just in case a linesman got injured.

Not really, there's sufficient slack in the system to do it
without promoting any additional referees. Lots of L3s and
above don't get a game every Saturday, and it isn't as if they
go and referee a grass roots game on Hackney Marshes if they
aren't allocated a game. And on Sunday and midweeks there are
loads free as much less games.
And they wouldn't be doing nothing, they'd be assistant the 4th
official like they do on cup finals.

Apologies but there really isn't enough slack

I like the concept but perhaps with VAR in the EPL they feel
that an AR is extremely unlikely to make a KMI error anymore?

Surprised little mention of the red card for Brentford at
EVerton yesterday. Looked harsh on first viewing and even
harsher looking at the replays

Red overturned for Norgaard.
