Stoke v Millwall - Will Finnie

My first time seeing Will Finnie after his call-up to replace
James Bell.
First half I thought he did quite well. An early flashpoint saw
him defuse the tensions and communicate strongly with the
players involved. I got the impression from that he's less
robotic than some of the other development group refs.
I will credit him with a very good advantage late in the first
half. Ashley Phillips was fouled but he held his whistle before
Stoke managed to create a promising attack leading to a Tom
Cannon shot.
However (the dreaded however), it went wrong early in the second
half.
Stoke had a corner which after a bit of bobbling around landed
at the feet of Wouter Burger. He's three yards out and about to
shoot but Jake Cooper man handles him from behind stopping the
shot.
A penalty and red card, given the lack of an attempt to play the
ball, should have been awarded. But Finnie waved it away. Stoke
players remonstrate leading to a yellow card to Burger, meaning
he's suspended for Stoke's next game.

Dermot Gallagher on Ref Watch this morning spoke about his poor
positioning making him unable to see it.
After that there was only one other incident to note when Romain
Esse went strongly into a sliding tackle in front of the
dugouts. That caused a crowd scene and the usual pushing and
shoving. The yellow to Esse for the tackle looked an appropriate
sanction.
Reasons to believe Finnie can continue to progress given the
right coaching as there was aspects I liked to his refereeing
style and demeanour. However, the missing of the KMI will ruin
his mark for this game.
