Hartlepool United FC (First Team) v Eastleigh FC (First Team)
National League - Premier
Referee: O'Connor, Jamie
Assistant Referee: Parker, Martin
Assistant Referee: Rushworth, Stephen
Fourth Official: Jones, David
As usual, was for the most part impressed by Jamie O’Connor.
Gave us a red card quite early in the first half and I agree it
was the right decision. Maybe made some poorer decisions later
on in the game and was very lenient with yellows, specifically
for time wasting. Maybe missed some clear fouls but definitely
wouldn’t have issues with him having another pools game.
Solihull away for us next week, be interesting to see who we
get.

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Notts County F.C. (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Copeland, Steven
Assistant Referee: McILravey, Ryan Gough, Callum
Assistant Referee: Wilding, Darren
Fourth Official: Ford, Declan
Oh dear, oh dear, Mr Copeland. For sixty minutes, you were the
best I've seen at Gresty Road in a long time, with your gorgeous
yellow shirt shining as a beacon of light in the gathering
gloom. And then you spoiled it by awarding a penalty to Crewe
which was, at best, dubious and, at worst, frankly ludicrous.
What you saw in the challenge in the penalty area, I don't know,
but it certainly didn't look like a penalty to me or, I have to
say, the die-hard home fans alongside me in the Main Stand. What
the County fans thought of the award is probably not printable.
In fairness, you picked yourself up and there were few if any
complaints about the red card to the Crewe sub, who had only
just come on to the field, for a nasty lunge. And the yellow
cards were spot on as well. A great pity but I hope we may see
more of you on the EFL as, one incident apart, you were very
good.
Steven Copeland - good to see a more mature looking 'newbie' at
CA and he reminded me of Jon Moss, Scott Duncan and Carl Brook
in appearance and style. His authoritative style of refereeing
blended in well and helped to make it an entertaining afternoon
for fans of both sides. I am sure we shall see more of him.
The A500 derby at Port Vale next Monday, 1st v 2nd, should be a
corker. Wonder who we'll get for this one? Another 'newbie'
perhaps?!
I agree with you Acme. He had a solid game overall besides the
penalty. With the yellow cards, and particularly the one on our
keeper, he never gave him any warning at all. Could this booking
then be considered slightly harsh?
Do you think that we will have SG2 next Monday? Or some
experienced refs like Ben Toner, Scott Oldham etc. Will be good
to see who it is and best of luck to them! I will be at home
watching this game!
I believe Zac Kennard-Kettle will be the referee. Or possibly
Paul Marsden.
Can’t be Kettle jr, he just had port vale yesterday!
Shame.

As I pointed out when this was mentioned when we had him at
Boston on the opening day of the season, Trevor seemed to
reserve his antics away from us and young Zac had a fairly
decent game in Lincolnshire.

In a word, No. Our keeper was pratting around all game and Steve
rightly yellow carded him. Port Vale next Monday, I think we
shall see SG2 or perhaps an experienced EFL ref (but hopefully
not Seb or Sunny). Would have been tailor made for Keith Stroud
but not anymore.
Edit - sorry, I was responding to Ryan's post about the Crewe
goalie being yellow carded for time wasting, but forgot to
include the post.

Why does Zac Kennard Kettle attract so much attention whereas
James Durkin seems to get none despite having a far more
illustrious father??

Going back to dubious penalties, the one given by James Oldham
in the Newport game seemed as poor a call as the penalty awarded
in the Crewe match.

We did enjoy reporting on Kettle Snr in the past…. Plenty of
maverick decisions and random abominations to which he was prone
to, which many esteemed correspondents on here have witnessed in
spades over the last ten to fifteen years.
I’ve not seen Kettle Jnr yet so can’t pass comment on his
progression, but I do hope that he succeeds in his refereeing
career and makes a positive contribution to matches he
officiates.
As for James Durkin, if he is half as good as his father was,
then we will have an outstanding official.
