Chesham v Lincoln (FA Cup) - Alex Chilowicz

My first live viewing of the American referee who has settled in
the UK. So far a good first half from him.
Diminutive and stocky of stature, Chilowicz has a relaxed style.
Showy in giving free kicks but is always up with play to give
decisions. He is happy to explain things to players and the
thing I’ve enjoyed so far is his willingness to let the game
flow and allow some physicality and not to stop the game
unnecessarily for every little bit of contact.
He has had a mixed set of reviews on here but it took Jarred
Gillett a while to acclimatise to the English style of football
and now he is one of our outstanding referees. Think the same
applies here to Alex Chilowicz, he has had some indifferent
performances but I speak as I find and comment accordingly.
I would give him a couple of years before he steps out as a
Premiership referee. Not the finished article yet here in the UK
but plenty of promise as far as I’m concerned.
By the way, his FA badge looks like an Essex County one, could
someone enlighten me?

That is indeed an Essex FA badge.
A good first half with no major issues. There was an extremely
wild challenge on the ‘far side’ (from the cameras) by a Chesham
player in the 42nd minute, which I have no doubt any contact
being made with the Lincoln player would have seen a red card
shown. Advantage was played and I thought a caution might have
been coming at the next stoppage, but a word was deemed
sufficient.
Second half has resulted in a near impossible to detect handball
that should have seen Lincoln’s 2nd goal disallowed. Seems clear
from the camera behind the goal and the close up that the ball
has struck the attacker’s right arm before he goes on and
immediately scores. Can’t really blame anyone for that - very
tough. A Chesham player managed to buy a free kick from AR2 just
beforehand by sticking his leg into a chasing Lincoln player,
but can’t otherwise think of a decision that looks incorrect.

Nothing really to add after the second half. Lincoln ran away
with the game and were comfortable winners, so Alex Chilowicz
wasn’t really tested.
Agree about the possible handball, difficult one to spot and
only VAR would have sorted that one out.
I think the players have respect for Alex Chilowicz and he is
not afraid to admonish them if they get a little too vocal in
their complaints. Overall he did well tonight and can push on
from there.
