I thought he was absolute terrible. No control whatsoever.
Struggled to keep up in the second half as well. Gave 3 soft
fouls in the first half then the similar incident on holjund in
front of the linesman no foul given, which was more blatant than
the ones he’d given. Not sure how Chelsea only ended up with 2
yellows with both CB lucky to avoid cautions for fouls on
holjund. Second half was a complete lottery on what was a foul
and what wasn’t, although Correct with penalty. And he did
nothing to stop Chelsea time wasting for the first minute and
then added only 4 minutes on.
Handbags at the end caused by him not taking control of the
situation. Martinez tackle for me is a clear red card.

this is exactly what I was thinking but thought I was losing it
reading all the other posters.he was inconsistent in foul
detection and a few more Chelsea players should have been
booked.he will be thanking Sanchez for that save aswell cause if
that went in there’d have been trouble

Obviously all opinions but I wouldn’t have said he was terrible.
Not saying he was good by any means just plainly average.
I’d agree on saying Martinez should have seen red. The fact he
went in studs showing with initial contact on the knee before
kind of scraping down onto the top of Palmer’s foot should be
enough for that VAR threshold for me. There just remains to be
so many inconsistencies of when VAR intervene. I was quite happy
when ‘referees call’ was introduced but I’m now not so sure as
there seems to have been a lot of controversy recently with VAR
interventions but that’s only to me

If the Martinez incident isn't enough for var to get involved in
then there's no real reason to have it at all, studs first
contact above the knee

If Hackett said it was red it definitely should have been
yellow.

Why did the AR flag Garnacho offside twice on very close
decisions where he was running towards goal? The first one
looked onside from the still on the replay and the AR didn't
appear to be level with play to be able to make an offside call.
What happened to seeing how the attacks developed as they both
weren't definite offsides?

Hackett wouldn’t have seen that tackle in real time… he’d still
be in the centre circle! 😛

Given the relative lack of force I think reckless rather than
excessive force/endangering safety is a reasonable conclusion,
and certainly not a "clear and obvious error" for VAR to
recommend a review. The point of contact alone does not
automatically make it a sending off.

I agree gents, I got absolutely layed into on here for my
opinion… it’s because people on this site very protective of
distinctively average referees who they have a huge fan club
for. Also I get toldthat I fail to understand the players feel
for the game, and player management … (boring) how about
referees enforce the laws of the game so the PL product which is
viewed by kids all over the world showcases “the image of the
game” years ago referees were told to think of the image of the
game which was to protect the business model as football is not
a game it’s just some entertainment with a huge business behind
it…. So how about we think about protecting the image of the
game ! And actually referee with personality.
I also got told I never praise I have said Gillett has been
exceptional this season !! Best referee by a country mile, Kav
has done good, Taylor and Oliver their usual consistent self …
The two smiths done well but haven’t been given much game time.
