Tim Robinson - Ipswich v Leicester

Today was the 3rd visit to Portman Road for Tim Robinson with 2
games in the middle and one being 4O to Lewis Smith and (in my
opinion) it’s quite damning that the referee aligned to the
National List, Lewis Smith has given the best performance from
those games
For me, Mr Robinson had a bit of a stinker where he was more
interested in dissent and delaying the restart, rather than
actual fouls themselves. I think only 2 out of 8 yellows shown
were actually for fouls. From the start, he didn’t really set a
standard and he certainly didn’t stick to it as foul detection
seemed very random, which is quite worrying for a SG1 official.
Both sets of fans and players seemed to get quite irritated with
him very quickly. This poor standard continued into the second
half and to me looks like he’s got some KMI’s wrong
Firstly, a possible pen for Ipswich which I think is a penalty.
(I know I’m a town fan and to many of you it may seem I am
wearing some blue-tinted glasses). Chaplin picks up the ball
moves it to the left and then Fatawu just steams into him
(without getting any touch on the ball). It just looks like a
stonewall penalty and I’m quite shocked that Attwell on VAR
hasn’t got involved there.
Then the red card to Phillips. Admittedly I do think that a
second caution is right having watched the replay. He goes in to
a 50/50 with his foot off the ground to try and block the ball.
It was obvious Pereira would go down like that but in the
current state of the game I would say as it’s a second yellow
card
Obviously I’m very frustrated by my team letting in a late goal
but Tim Robinson just got involved too much in a game where, for
the most part, two teams just wanted to play football. I don’t
think Robinson has had a great start to the season and he’s not
doing himself much good with performances like that.
Any other thoughts on his performance??

For the penalty, are you referring to the incident just before
the red card?

Yeah I am. In my opinion, the defender just seems to run into
him.

From the single view I’ve had on the Sky highlights, seems to be
a coming together at that. Once the referee says no penalty, I’d
be very surprised to see the VAR coming in there.

I agree Tim and team didn't have the best afternoon, but no
major mistakes.
Got several minor decisions wrong early on, throw ins given the
wrong way, an obvious corner to Leicester given as a goal kick
but nothing major incorrect. Phillips was lucky to only receive
a yellow card for a late elbow charge into the head of a
Leicester player towards the end of the first half. His second
caution was an obvious reckless challenge so no choice for Tim.
Penalty shout for Ipswich was the correct call for me, looked
like Chaplin threw himself into the Leicester player, certainly
not enough for VAR to overturn.
Correct call not to award a foul in the build up to the
Leicester goal too, Soumare just too strong for both Ipswich
players.

Fair enough. All opinions accepted.
I agree I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the late
equaliser. Like you said, the player was just so strong
otherwise we’re in a bad place if people are being penalised for
being strong

Just hearsay I'm afraid as I wasn't at the match ( though
hopefully I shall be at the Spurs match next Sunday ) but a
friend, always scrupulously fair to referees, was at Portman
Road and gave a pretty unenthusiastic report on Tim Robinson.
"Never seemed to be in full control of the match....struggling
to maintain proper authority....didn't have the respect of the
players " I pass the comments on for what they are worth.

The worst decision was not dismissing Phillips for violent
conduct for a clear elbow to the head.

I was at the match. We had a poor referee, making poor decisions
and we had VAR letting Ipswich down for the umpteenth time this
season by also making poor decisions.
I naively thought that the introduction of VAR would put an end
to the unfashionable clubs getting the thin end of the wedge
when it comes to refereeing decisions but the way it's been
implemented and performed it's now just two ways to get them !
