       Southampton v Stoke - Lewis Smith

       The second time I've seen this official and the second time I
       can say that I'm unconvinced. This wasn't the hardest game to
       referee with plenty of it feeling like attacking v
       defence...however...
       For the Southampton penalty, Dixon has the shirt pulled off his
       back before being adjudged to have kicked through/tripped
       Sugawara. For me, the first foul is on the Stoke defender and
       should have been a defensive FK.
       There was only one poor challenge in the first half - Ugochukwu
       slides in from behind with a scissor action after the ball had
       gone. Smith decides just a FK and no caution. If this is a
       league game, it's a yellow.
       Second half - Ugochukwu slides in late on Tchamadeu, catching
       the defender after the ball had gone. Smith gives just a throw
       before Tchamadeu reacts to the challenge. That sees Tchamadeu
       and Armstrong booked - the Saints man for getting involved in
       the melee.
       Towards the end, two Stoke penalty appeals both waved away.
       Manhoef has hit foot trodden on but stays on his feet with no
       advantage. If he goes down it's a foul. Then, Ramsdale crashes
       through Manhoef at a bouncing ball, which ricocheted off the
       Stoke man and towards goal - seen pens given for that.
       Even in stoppage time, Smith books Cornet for kicking the ball
       away, albeit only toe-bunting it a few yards. Moments later
       another Saints man does similar to delay the restart - no card.
       A game where Smith was inconsistent but will probably be looked
       on favourably for cautions for handbags and delaying the
       restart.

       Likewise never been convinced but he clearly has backers in high
       places and is being pushed. Much prefer the other Smith - Josh -
       who I think  has more natural talent and a greater feel for the
       game.
