       S A HOOPER - Chelsea v Newcastle

Very poor decision not to give a free kick when Colwill cleaned
out Guimares when he was approaching the box.
Possible chance of a red card for DOGSO but covering defenders
       means VAR can’t come in.

Shocking call by Hooper for chelsea penalty, who had a clear
view, correctly overturned by Gillet on VAR

I thought it was a below par performance from Hooper, with VAR
coming in to overrule his penalty call, and the missed foul when
Bruno Guimarães Rodrigues Moura was felled outside the box.
Plenty of cards as well and a few other odd decisions made.
On the plus side, he wore yellow.

Poor performance from Mr Hooper today and the more the game went
on the more he seemed to lose control.
I am very confused on the decision to overturn the Nkunku
penalty. We are constantly told that if there is contact then
the decision will stand. I do not think it was a penalty,
however once given and the video shows contact on the shoulder
then how does the overturn happen?
I have a very hard time reconciling that with the decision to
get involved with the West Ham penalty and - for example - the
refusion to get involved in more obvious incidents such as
Sancho / Alexander-Arnold last weekend. It is, quite simply, a
       hot mess.

       I disagree about the if there’s contact it’s a penalty comment .
       I’m
Pretty sure there has to be enough contact to make the player go
down these days and not any contact it’s a penalty

I don’t believe that is true. ‘Contact’ alone has never been
enough - it has to be sufficient to justify a foul. We should
expect VAR to intervene in events that simply aren’t penalties,
even though some contact has occurred.
Very odd missed free kick to Newcastle in the first half, and
the mandatory yellow it would have required.

Messy from Hooper, maybe time is now showing he is no where near
       PL quality.
Awful pen decision correct from the excellent Gillett to tell
       him to review for overturn
