Cardiff RFC v Aberavon - Craig Evans

I’m in the Welsh capital visiting my partner’s family, with her
grandson mad keen on rugby union.
The grandson was partaking in a guard of honour for the Welsh
Rugby Trophy game at Cardiff Arms Park, one of the world’s most
iconic sporting venues.
Onto the match itself, refereed by international official Craig
Evans. And he did a first class, competent job, the players got
on with the game and gave him no trouble whatsoever.
Evans sin binned two players, one from each side and it’s always
interesting to see tactical infringements being penalised with
10 minutes off the field. Football was thinking about this but
have pulled back from doing so.
The crowd was about 1,000 strong on a beautiful autumn
afternoon, and I enjoyed a cracking match which Cardiff won
31-14, 5 tries to 2. No histrionics from players or crowd, no TV
to rule on decisions, and the crowd conversing freely without
any rancour whatsoever.
As I said, an excellent performance from the man in yellow (BMB
will disapprove!! ) and a refreshing change away from the
cynical world of professional football. A great experience all
round.
