Yes, he seems to have disappeared from sight in the same way as
Chris Pollard. I recall Peter had a spell out last season,
presumably because of injury. I've seen him a few times at
Crewe, competent but nothing spectacular. I wish him well.

Ruebyn Ricardo appears to be making good and steady progress.
I shall be at The Valley on Saturday and will see Tom Reeves. I
have seen him once before and he gave a low profile, competent
performance on that occasion. I hope for more of the same.

One would think so from the appointments, but he was very
disappointing doing the Southend v Maidenhead match ten days
ago. Perhaps now he has established himself as a Football League
official, he considers this non-league stuff beneath him. He
liked the sound of his whistle too much, was overly fussy and
his first two cards, one apiece, were both unnecessary. He
didn't seem to have much respect for or from the players and he
spent too much of the game making it about him. His biggest
fault was failing to stop play after a player was accidentally
kicked in the head in the 6-yard box. Probably a penalty, but
that was a subjective judgement call. However it was
unforgiveable to leave the clearly badly injured player stricken
on the ground for half a minute before allowing the trainer on.
He wasted no time showing a yellow card to a player for pointing
out this particular shortcoming. I didn't recognise him as the
outstanding prospect I first saw at Concord Rangers a couple of
years back and whose first visit shortly afterwards, to Roots
Hall was generally accepted as one of the best of the season. He
has been selected and he knows it.

This is disappointing to read m'learned friend, especially the
part about lack of respect. I hope the polite, dedicated and

by success into something less pleasing. Sometimes when
promotion to a higher level is achieved it takes some
individuals time to find their natural rhythm of personality and
practice which served them so well in getting there in the first
place. I have seen it professionally several times but usually
people revert back and show their innate qualities when they
feel more sure of themselves. It never really happened to me
because I have always suffered from impostor syndrome and,
wondering what I was doing there in the first place, made sure

Having looked solely at the stats for the game there were 37
fouls awarded and a whole sack of cards issued.
Obviously I’ve not seen any highlights and they could all be
       thoroughly deserved.
I’d be interested to here his views too about another potential
       high flier learning his trade.

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Salford City FC (First Team)
       Football League 2
       Referee: Singh Gill, Sunny
       Assistant Referee: Williams, Ollie
       Assistant Referee: Wilding, Darren
       Fourth Official: Felton, Niall
I am going to try to keep my cool writing this but I do not want
to see Sunny referee a Crewe game again. Ever. He was absolutely
awful, for both sides. On a number of times, everyone was left
confused to what he had given. All 3 yellows, all for Salford,
were correctly established and that’s the only bit of praise
that I’m going to give him. Well done to the Crewe players who
kept their discipline, because I certainly wouldn’t have
playing. Not only Sunny, but AR2 as well. The Salford goal
looked offside to me, and I was more a less inline with it. Back
to Sunny now. Inconsistent for both sides with fouls given and
not. Crewe should’ve had a penalty late on in the second half
for the most blatant push you’ll ever see. Only 3 mins were
added on second half, and that was appalling in itself. The
amount of stoppages that happened in this half, mounted to at
least 7 mins added. He lost control of the game basically from
half time onwards. He booked our manager for something I don’t
know(probably for moaning, won’t have been surprised tbf). How
Karl Robinson never got booked was so questionable. Every single
time something went against him, he was in Niall’s (who looks
and has the height of a 12 year old) ear. I lost count the
amount of times Karl was talking to him. Even when a decision
was in his favour, he still had something to complain about!!!
Shocking. There’s a lot more I could say, but I don’t want it
turning into an English essay so I’ll leave it as that.
Final points, he should get a new whistle, it sounded awful. As
the Crewe manager said in his interview “both sides were left
appalled at some of the decisions.” How he got a premier league
game beggars belief. Oh, I know why! For diversity. Whoever the
assessor was, needs to have a right go at Sunny because that
“performance” was far from acceptable. He was booed off, quite
heavily, at full time. And I don’t blame the Crewe fans for
that. A generous 1/10 rating. One of the worst I’ve ever seen at
Gresty Road, and that’s with 2019 David Rock visiting…

Yes, I did get there and yes, I agree with everything you have
said. An excellent post in my view. I was hoping to see a win
for Crewe (in my case for the first time in 2024) + a good
performance from Sunny, but in the end, I saw neither. OK, the
referee is ultimately not responsible for the conduct of the
players on the field, but Sunny's lack of consistency made it
easy for the players to engage in pushing and shoving, tripping
and and endless squabbling, knowing that they would probably get
away with it, which they did in most instances. I was
particularly incensed when a Crewe player was hacked down in the
first half and Sunny looked as though he was playing an
advantage (which wasn't there) but then failed to pull play back
when the advantage didn't materialise and, even worse, failed to
caution the Salford player when play was next stopped. A caution
was correctly given for kicking the ball away, but this was the
third such instance. And, as for the late penalty shout for
Crewe, how that was not a penalty, I really don't know. I
disagree with you in one respect only, I don't think the Salford
goal was offside, rather a lack of basic defending and a Salford
player who was quick off the mark to latch on to a ball through
the middle and score with some ease. At the end, and with both
sets of fans chanting "you're not fit to referee", I thought
back to last season and wondered why and how it had all gone
wrong for Sunny. Perhaps some words of advice from his dad would
be better than an observer's comments on this performance which
       was frankly not good enough.

I tried to take the emotion out of it, but honestly I couldn’t
do much else! As a fellow ref, I thought he was extremely poor
and not up to the correct standard that the EFL need. The
previous Crewe v Salford games have been very feisty. They need
more experienced refs on it in the future, Darren Drysdale etc.
I’ve got to be honest, I did think it was the Observer’s job to
have a go at the officials. So obviously I am wrong. Whoever the

While your assessment of the match is informative, it would be
good to take the emotion out of it. So rather than write as an
angry fan, try to analyse his performance as a fellow Referee.
       All the competencies.
Oh, it not Observer's job to have a go at the Officials, he or
she just need to debrief the Officials, point to strengths and
development opportunities, watch match footage and write report.
Its the job of Referee's Coach to do the informal debrief.

Sorry, aaa, I respect your views, as I always do, but I'm with
Ryan on this one. The performance by Sunny at Crewe this
afternoon was deplorable, and both Ryan and I have tried to
explain why in some detail. Ryan's post in my view ticks all the
performance and incident boxes that I would have ticked had I
commented first and I personally feel that the post should be
accepted as such. As for emotion, have we never come away from a
game filled with emotion, good or bad? The beauty of RTR in my
view is you can engage that emotion in praise and constructive
criticism which is what Ryan has done in considerable detail.
And now I think we ought to leave it at that.
