Interesting that in the final he wore only a plain RA badge, not
a FIFA, FL / FLRefs Association or County one.

I recall Frank appeared on TV before the Final to give an
interview. Very daring of the authorities to allow this I would
suggest. He looked his age, as did a number of venerable FA Cup
Final refs in those days and I recall he was 'over-age',
certainly by the time he came off the list two seasons later. If
ever a referee changed the course of football history, this was
it, with McParland's unpunished lunge at United keeper Wood
after just 6 minutes leaving the goalie unconscious and with a
broken cheek bone, and United effectively down to 10 players for
the remaining 85 minutes in days when there were no subs
allowed. And Villa's 2-1 win deprived United of the first
'double' of the 20th century. Not one of Franks' finest moments.
