In a game which was really easy to manage, Ruebyn somehow
managed to get the home fans really annoyed. Most of the game he
was fine, but I didn’t like how we wasn’t giving any shirt
pulling at all - especially on our striker. One decision that
was an absolute shocker was: our winger running down the wing,
Harrogate’s defender basically slices him from behind - no free
kick, but then gives handball against our attacker. At this
point, the home fans were livid. Our manager got booked for
dissent, I’d imagine, after not giving that free kick. It was
right in front of me, and the defender had no intention of
getting the ball at all, and was just wanting to take our
attacker out. Besides that, he didn’t get much else wrong as
such. Final couple of minutes finished under heavy rain and
thunder! Safe to say Ruebyn and team were quick to get off the
pitch following the storm! Crewe cooking up a storm (literally!)
I winced (at home) as the thunder and lightning moved in just
before 5pm but then noted that the game had ended with a Crewe
win. I had visions of the players being taken off in added time.
Hope you didn't get too wet on the way home.
I made a dart back to the car, don’t think I’ve ran that quick
ever!!

Oh and another thing to add. Ruebyn didn’t let Harrogate’s
manager return the ball to our player? To set the scene. Crewe
1-0 Harrogate at the time. Ball goes out for a Crewe throw and
the ball lands right near Simon Weaver (Harrogate manager). He
goes to pick it up and give it to the Crewe player, but Ruebyn
whistles and tells him to not do that? What!!? It wasn’t like
Simon was going to waste time was it?
The times I've seen a manager give the ball to an opposing
player and sometimes it just manages to slip out of his hand or
he throws it just out of the player's reach. Obviously I can't
comment about this specific incident as I wasn't there but in
general I think it's astute refereeing not to allow
inter-reaction between managers and opposing players because of
the risk of 'misunderstanding' and escalation.

I don't know Stuart Morland, but it looked remarkably like
Darren Drysdale, with his very distinctive features, i/c at
Hartlepool (highlights on tonight's Look North).

Lee Swabey gets the early frontrunners at Meadow Lane and Matt
Corlett has a nice TV appointment with a local rivalry at
Fleetwood. Sam Purkiss has the same in non-league on Saturday
evening too.
Darren Drysdale for us, having not had him for about 5 years, we
have him twice in about 8 games stretching back to last season!
Mr Drysdale is not a Rovers favourite, mainly due to failing to
disallow a clear handball goal by Grimsby a few years ago. I was
also disappointed that he took no action, after the Milton
Keynes opening scorer goaded the home crowd without obvious
cause last season. Otherwise he was fine in that game.
I’m sure the admins will update but the club website now has
Matt Corlett to take charge rather than Darren Drysdale, so a
switch up for Monday night too
Matt Corlett is now down for both matches!
To my eyes, looks like it is Matt Corlett refereeing - why
they’ve used him Saturday/Monday seems crazy

He must have made a mad dash up from AFC Wimbledon, then!

Water under the bridge (probably literally in the case of AFC
Wimbledon), but I don't follow. 'Mad dash from AFCW? Wimbledon
were away and Darren came off the Colchester game for some
reason.

Apologies, I’m getting my Wimbledon games mixed up due to having
been away for a week and catching up with all the highlights a
week behind!
Anyway, the ref was still Stuart Morland.
