I have seen the incident in question I didn’t see the match due
to work, yes I can understand the 2nd yellow for Dec it’s the
law he was stupid and now his stupidity may cost us in the next
game which is the NLD stupid game to do it the game before, but
surely there has to be some consistency why wasn’t Joao Pedro
booked for kicking the ball away yes it’s early on but the rules
are rules there has to be consistency and why wasn’t the
incident involving Veltman and Rice looked at surely there has
to be a booking minimum there if not a red I like Kav as a ref
but he has had a shocker there, surely he could of used common
sense and not shown the 2nd yellow

Didn’t see the whole game but have seen multiple incidents.
Personally feel the red card for rice is backable but I don’t
like it because in my opinion veltman has caused it by kicking
it at him and then kicking him which I don’t think a red for
violent conduct but should definitely be booked for it.
I wouldn’t have an issue with the second yellow if he was
consistent which he wasn’t, with Joao Pedro booting the ball 25
yards when clearly out of play earlier in the game which he
should have been booked for.

He was poor and inconsistent. Joao Pedro not being booked but
Declan. Partey booked for a soft foul. Mitoma fouling Saka close
to the box, would have been a great free kick chance.

Having looked again, I can see why a 2YC for Rice is totally
supportable, but I'd say the decision is technically wrong in
law. Rice hasn't actually delayed the restart, the ball was
kicked against him and still rolling when he has touched it, so
at that point the restart has not been delayed.
Rice's touch perhaps was 'sly' but Pedro's boot half the length
of the stadium was as subtle as a sledgehammer and if you're not
going to issue a YC for that, then you cannot issue a YC for
Rice, even if he did delay the restart. Technically if you want
to take this to the nth degree, he didn't delay the restart due
to the ball still rolling at that point.
All that aside, Veltmann knew what he was doing and he needed
either a YC and/or a OFR for VC, hence my original post saying
this was a failure for team ref and not just Kav.

“This is the laws of the game. If you touch the ball even a
little bit it’s a red card after my challenge in the first
half.” Declan Rice.
Says it was harsh but correct and accepts responsibility for it
and says he will learn from it. Good to see the player taking
responsibility for his own actions.

Good for him. A lesson for all players and coaches.

Dublinref spot on.
I get quite annoyed by ex players and the like bemoaning over
zealous refereeing like they should just bend the laws/rules to
keep eleven v eleven on the pitch.
Nice to see Rice own it.

The strange thing he did get it wrong in the first half when a
Brighton player hoofed the ball halfway up the field in the
first half. Inconsistent refereeing.

Well said bmb. The problem for referees is that delaying playing
the ball is a mandatory caution. Other offences which may appear
to be far worse often fall into the category of no card, try to
manage the game. The referee here can use his discretion. So we
get the accusation of inconsistency which is unfair to the
referee who is trying to keep his cards in his pocket.
I note also that delaying the restart generally applies to when
the ball has been placed ready for the free kick and the
penalised team then kicks the ball away. If the offending team
kicks the ball when they already have possession then referees
are more tolerant possibly because it is not delaying a quick
restart. Anthony Taylor ignored something like this at Old
Trafford yesterday. Poor referees, they cannot win.
