I equally had missed this USA transfer but, having been MLS
referee (FIFA?), L1/2 seems right. Also common for L1/2 refs to
get PL teams in league cup as a taster, but presumably if doing
well.

(ish) member I haven't trawled the whole site to see the
extensive discussions you speak of...

You don't need to; you just need to follow the EFL or search for
his name at the top of this forum or type it into Google.

Sunday League standard at best.With a half decent ref Crawley
should had finished with 8 players instead of 10.Also very slow
at responding to injured players,ok we all know some make a meal
of things,but what if it had been a head injury for instance?

Matt O'Riley requires ankle surgery. The Crawley player is
responsible for that and deserves at least a 3 game ban which he
will not get of course but it is irritating that not only did
the referee miss it / fail to act, but also failed to recognise
the potential injury that can result.
Referees are clamping down on dangerous tackles, in many cases
the tackle doesn't cause serious injury but then you see this. A
dangerous tackle is not just high foot or studs up but the mere
fact of going in late with force on a player who may not expect
it.
IMHO, the referee and maybe assistant should be held to account
here. Rested or whatever. It would be a reminder to him and
other referees that bad tackles must be "stamped out".

Terrible to hear the player has sustained a bad injury. Speedy
recovery to him.
In my view it is SFP and a red card.
I like a few others had somehow completely missed Mr. Chilowicz
joining the EFL from MLS last year. I’m sure that must be a
challenge settling in, especially as he was presumably a full
time professional in the US.
I personally think judging a referee based off one game or even
a few games is unfair. He made a poor call in this instance but
given his VAR appointment this week, it seems he is on the
PGMOLs radar and perhaps we will see a lot of more of him,
hopefully with improved results!

I saw Alex referee the Crewe v Swindon game last Saturday he
was inconsistent with his decision making, and confused both
players and the technical areas. He administered 3 cautions
which were all fully justified, but wanted to explain why when
awarding a free kick the reason for being given.
I would agree it must be difficult coming over to England from
America, but the powers that be must have faith in him, thou
watching his performance on Saturday and failing to take the
required action with regards the Crawley Defenders terrible
tackle i would think he will be getting some advice, and maybe
will see a more consistent referee in future games.

He was a MLS Prem Ref, working for Howard Webb, he use to get
many top appointments in America, in front of 40-50,000 people.
So I’m not sure why last night was such a real test for him.
Thst tackle was disgusting and a clear straight red !!! He be
disappointed in that.
My prediction though is he will get a trial PL game this season
without a shadow of doubt !! Webb has basically brought him over
and now he is working VAR in the PL

Crowd size is irrelevant in relation to a sub par standard of
football. The English system is brutal and this is why many get
found out when they rise too rapidly or import from inferior
foreign leagues.

What a load of nonsense regarding inferior leagues. If you
think the English system is brutal for referees I suggest that
you watch games in Turkey, Serbia, and much of Eastern Europe
and South America - I think you'd find Brighton v Crawley is a
walk in the park.
I thought we moved away from labeling referees according to
where they were from years ago. In recent years Champions
League final referees have been from Slovenia, Serbia, Poland,
and Turkey. All "inferior" leagues and all performed well, much
better than Graham Poll and Howard Webb who struggled in big
World Cup games.
