Newcastle v Everton. “Referee”: Lee Mason
DIR By: robbie_scouse

Clear red card not given by “referee” Lee Mason. Pickford makes
a hash of a catch, drops the ball, it falls to the feet of
Rondon, who faced with an open goal is rugby tackled by
Pickford. Mason gives the penalty and NO card. Should have been
red but not even a yellow.
To compound matters, Pickford saves the penalty and the Ev go up
the other end and score!!
Mason really is shocking!!

According to Sky, Pickford was to blame for Newcastle's 3rd goal
and Jeff Stelling commented that he shouldn't really have been
on the pitch.

Haven't seen the incident yet but if it's a genuine attempt to
play the ball and the player is fouled it's a maximum of penalty
and yellow card.

That’s a red card all day long he knew exactly what he was doing
and no way was it a genuine attempt to play the ball

It was more of a genuine attempt to play two balls!! No double
jeopardy here.

That is correct but having seen it, Pickford drops the ball
behind him and just launches himself rugby style at Rondon to
stop him running onto the ball and tapping in. As clear a red
card as you could wish to see. Then to compound it he saves the
pen... although Newcastle did win in the end!

I've just seen the incident.... perhaps Mason thinks he is as
good as Nigel Owens officiating the six nations.
Absolute garbage of the highest order... yet another incident to
put in his scrapbook of dross this season.

Marco Silver is going to be in a whole heap of trouble I suspect

As well as angrily confronting Mason on the pitch he lays his
hand on Harry Lennard to prevent him from walking off.

Given Robbie correctly described the incident as a ‘rugby
tackle’, how could it ever have been a genuine attempt to play
the ball?

Because I hadn’t seen it?! Hence why I put ‘if’ it was a genuine
attempt to play the ball.
I was shocked however when I did see it how incompetent Mason
was not to send off Pickford.
