Could sensibly use the concept of gaining an advantage for both
handball and offside. Would be much easier to ask the question
in Sterling's case today as "Did he gain an advantage? - Easy
answer.

Or make it simpler, If there are two defensive players of which
one can be the goalie, between the attacking player and goal,
the player is not offside.
None of this attempting to play the ball deflection bollocks
that's in place at the moment.
