Absolutely shambolic.
Everyone from the Referee, VAR, FIFA, UEFA, IFAB should all be
ashamed of themselves for what they're turning this game into.

Off topic slightly but Cakir flashed 9 yellows in the other
game, 39 fouls and two VAR penalties, one given the other not.
At least those decisions were far less controversial.

While two wrongs don’t make a right the PSG player who was
penalised for the penalty one could say it was Karma after the
first leg - he should have been sent off in the first leg
According to reports Irriati from Italy was the VAR on the PSG
vs Utd match

Well, you certainly can't say VAR robbed the emotion here. Wow!
What a game!
As soon as I saw the incident, I expected a penalty.
VAR/referees have been very consistent on this: Denmark V
Australia, Portugal V Iran, France V Croatia in the final at the
World Cup, the Man City game the other week. Penalties were
awarded in all these scenarios despite people disagreeing with
it.

I remain completely confused as to what is and what isn’t a
penalty. It’s all a shambles and random decision making as far
as I can see.

As an English referee this for me is a NOT a penalty! Don’t know
why Walton on BT was going off on one about the rules as they
stand and all this garbage - don’t remember him ever giving one
like that!
That aside for continental referees and uefa that is as clear a
penalty as you can get. I said it as soon as I saw the replay.l!
Fantastic comeback by United when everything was against them
and to have two English sides through when it seemed there would
be a max of 3 is brilliant!

I totally agree. What with the offside law and now penalties,
how is it possible to make what is essentially a simple and
straightforward game so complex?
I enjoy watching rugby union but half the time I am mystified as
to what is going on and what constitutes foul play or technical
offences and what doesn't. Sadly I think football is going the
same way and when, as was clearly demonstrated last night, the
people who have played the game for years and the officials who
referee it can't agree as to when a potentially result changing
offence has been committed, what hope is there, especially when
there are different interpretations from country to country?

Ironically Mark Clattenburg, who gave a worse decision of
handball against Sterling, is saying that this one shouldn't
have been a penalty.

Before a ball was kicked in the World Cup I said that VAR would
result in a lot more penalties being awarded and I was proved
right. Last night was a case in point.
Expect a lot more penalties in the Premier League next season.
It is similar to LBWs in cricket. Before DRS came in most
umpires set a very high bar for giving LBWs out. For example, if
batsmen played forward they were seldom given out. DRS proved
that more balls actually went on to hit the stumps. First of all
VAR will give more penalties and then referees will set the bar
lower for awarding penalties.
