       Jon Moss heading to Scotland
   DIR By: Referee99
       Date: August 7, 2024, 11:06 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Jon Moss has been appointed as the Scottish FA’s first VAR
       Manager.
The former Premier League official and elite referee manager at
PGMOL is the first appointment of new Head of Refereeing Willie
Collum, who made the specialist role a key priority upon joining
       last month.
Moss will support Collum in maintaining the highest standards of
VAR training, implementation, appointment and performance
       review.
Moss operated in English football’s top-flight for more than a
decade, including over 250 Premier League games, as well as the
2015 FA Cup Final and the 2019 League Cup Final.
He retired from refereeing in 2022 and joined Professional Game
Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), where he worked as elite
referee manager until earlier this year. He will officially
       begin his role next week.
Jon Moss, Scottish FA VAR Manager: "I’m really excited to work
with Willie and the team to evolve the implementation of VAR in
       Scottish football.
"In our conversations we agreed on the importance of the
fundamentals of VAR: clarity, communication and transparency.
"We went through a similar process around the introduction of
VAR in England - I was the referee in the first ever game that
VAR intervened in the country - so I've seen first-hand what has
worked and what needed to change, both as a referee and in my
       role within PGMOL.
"I look forward to working with the referees and the team at the
Scottish FA to continue to improve how VAR is operated within
       Scottish football."
Willie Collum, Head of Refereeing, Scottish FA: "I am delighted
to welcome Jon, who has significant and varied experience in
using technology as a referee, working as a VAR operator and
also serving behind the scenes as a manager of elite officials.
"I believe his experience will benefit not only our current VARs
and AVARs, but also the next generation who will need to become
proficient in the use of the technology as we continue to
       improve its usage.
"I am confident that Jon's appointment will help us on our
journey towards making VAR more efficient and less intrusive in
       Scottish football."

Good luck to Jon, a decent chap.
Pushed out by Webb once he got his feet under the PGMOL table. I
hope Jon makes VAR. a success in Scotland because, for all the
anticipation of it improving here under a Webb, it’s still a
       complete shambles

After only less than 2 months in the role , Jon Moss is leaving
his role and heading to pastures new to take up a senor role as
head of referees at another national association .

Ironic as the FA took our previous Head of Refereeing.

Wasn't Mihály Fabián very senior there until quite recently? I
can't remember his exact role but have seen loads of photos of
him there. I think he is VAR project manager for Oceana
       Federation currently.

He certainly was, very nice man and a very good referee coach.
It was a big loss to Australian refereeing when he left the
       federation.
I have no doubt he will do an excellent job with OFC.

Love to hear that. Mihály is such a sweetheart. Another one who
is a huge loss to Hungarian football and was treated appallingly
by the previous regime but I am loving seeing him thrive
       elsewhere.
I was at his last match as a referee late on in September 2015,
I was in Hungary with the intention of watching Újpest but when
I saw the referee appointments I knew something was going on in
the Békécsaba v Vidi game - Mihály was listed as the referee
with Kassai Victor and Bognár Tamás listed as AAR's - they never
did AAR duty! Erős Gábor was 4O and Dr Varga Zsolt was AR1,
can't remember who AR2 was now. After the game his retirement
due to injury was announced so I'm glad I went! We've kept in
touch sporadically over the years, he used to love coaching bmb
       jr. and correcting my Hungarian!

I wonder if that will be the final whistle for the Vinyl Whistle
in Headingley or if family members will carry it on, nice cuppa
n cake served in there too or the odd ale.
