Unlikely to be Bankes seeing as he is from Liverpool (although
he is an Evertonian).

Very well deserved for one of our top 3 refs currently. I used
to officiate with him when he was a sprightly teenager still, he
had a good head on his shoulders and was always destined for
arenas like this.

Interesting that Brooks is doing one of the "big 3" wembley
finals for the 2nd year in a row. He's working with Bankes'
regular assistants who would have been a good choice himself but
obviously can't do it due to being from Liverpool.

Congratulations to John Brooks. I think this appointment then
rules him out for the FA Cup Final. I know Alan Wiley got both
Finals in the same season but the FA Cup was as a late
replacement for the original appointee Mike Dean who was stood
down ( for not terribly good reasons I recall ). Therefore this
leads me to believe even more strongly that this will be Stuart
Attwell's year. The only other candidate I think is Peter
Bankes. It might have been that David Coote would have been
appointed but his fall from grace means that possibility must
necessarily remain in the realm of speculation.

Chris Kavanaugh would also be a contender for FA cup final IMO.

Between kavanagh atwell and bankes for me.atwell is my preferred
choice as hes having a good season.

Congrats to all for their appointments. Fully deserved.
Especially happy for Brooks having met him at an event in
December. Really nice guy and a top referee. Hope he has a great
game 👍
