Colchester United FC (First Team) v Reading FC (First Team)

Not a good night for the usually reliable Neil Hair
unfortunately. I thought his foul detection was a little on the
lenient side and he missed a few, but not the worst in that
element. His positioning was good but seemed to get in the way
of players or the ball 2 or 3 times, not always the referees
fault, but just an observation. Spot on with the penalty, easy
one for him and he was excellently positioned to award it.
Rightly booked Ihionvien for backchat at the full time whistle.
However, the big negative was his failure to send off Abraham
Kanu. He was booked for fouling Tovide when he appeared to be
through on goal. I would have said a red card was correct but
there’s a small amount of justification for a yellow card. Then
Kanu again fouled Tovide as he was running away from him right
in front of AR2. Such a clear yellow that I can only imagine he
was worried to give as it was only 2 or 3 minutes after the
first one. To say he “bottled it” sounds unprofessional, but I
can’t quite think of a nicer term! Suffice to say, Kanu was
hooked a minute later (in the 33rd minute) with I think everyone
in the stadium baffled at how he stayed on the pitch.

They may have Hollywood owners who make their living on the big
screen, but is it a new rule that Wrexham must be the headline
act on TV almost every time they play? Their game against
Bolton this Sunday is the main Sky Sports match too.

No need for that and quite possibly not true - I doubt if Driver
is a supporter of Man City they are “salty”! A lot of supporters
are a bit frustrated that the Wrexham coverage is excessive, but
that’s probably a debate to be had somewhere else.

The BBC did a few years ago. After featuring Salford City in a
"spy on the wall" documentary they appeared in more than their
fair share of live FA Cup ties. The TV revenue provided a
timely boost to their finances as they progressed through the
pyramid to the EFL. A clear "unfair advantage" to a team that
also just happened to be on the doorstep of BBC Towers.

Probably just the way it has played out, and from memory there
was niggle when they played Sheffield United in the FA Cup last
       season.
Sheffield Wednesday, who are far from media darlings, have all 4
of their opening games live on scheduled channels (i.e. not on
       the red button).
