The ECB cannot afford to let it fail and with the broadcasters
refusing to criticise the tournament other than making passing
remarks, we have a situation where it will continue providing
poor cricket. Now, some matches have been good with interesting
and indeed close finishes - Lancashire v Yorkshire (!) last
night was interesting. The pitches have at times been perhaps
too bowler friendly and I am not sure about the new ball they
are using but my main criticism is that I cannot relate to the
format or the teams. Welsh Fire for example?
No, I prefer the Blast but I am probably in the minority whose
views are overlooked as TV revenues become the dominant factor.
A revamped Blast was imho the way forward. However, there has
been some good cricket, excellent fielding, terrific catches and
funny moments as in Salt's run out last night!
Yorkshire v Lancashire where only 2 players born in Yorkshire
get in the Yorkshire side, how things have changed over the
years.
I would say it was more Durham v Lancashire at a Yorkshire
venue.
I dont see what the competition achieves where the game is only
played in this country. Stick to T20 format but set stringent
time limits for the bowling of the 20 overs

On Sunday I was trying to watch Olympic tennis final on iPlayer
and after 1 set the BBC switched to shooting, that well known
spectator sport. So, unable to get Discovery on our narrowboat
I thought I'd watch BBC 2's Hundred coverage. Awful, childish
even. I am too old for this world!
Last night there was a cracking moment when an appeal for a
catch behind resulted in the umpire rubbing his nose with his
finger and then raising his finger to signal out. Cruel!
Reviewed, ball missed the bat by miles! Overturned. There was a
noise so decision was understandable but it was bat on pad. Very
funny.

Have to say what an absolute awful competition this is. Drab
dull cricket played in half empty stadia. The T20 blast should
have been enhanced not bashed to one side so the ECB could make
millions in profit!
Not to mention the matches are played on concrete roads.
Had these pitches been prepared in a test match they’d be marked
as sub standard due to the unfair contest between bat and ball.

Spot on. The initial “razzmatazz” has died off a lot, both in
terms of players and the fanfare the comp came with. I only hope
the ECB are seeing what we’re all seeing and make the most of
the 18 counties that would thrive from the attention and
finances.
I always thought this would be the year of truth for the
Hundred. An Olympic games running at the same time, and
effectively same time zone, was always, IMO, going to test the
attendances.
2021 was the first year so had the novelty factor, as well Tokyo
action taking place overnight and early morning here in the UK.
It also had the attraction of families going out together in the
summer again after the pandemic the year before.
Fast forward 3 years, money is tight for a lot of people and
those who are likely to watch 100 are, I would suggest general
sports fans, (rather than county fans) and those people will
watch the Olympics for free at home.
I've dipped in and out of the 100 over the last 3 years, never
watched a full game, so cannot comment on the standard. From an
outside point of view it just seems like a few experienced
players come to UK for 6 weeks, take the big money then move
onto another tournament elsewhere.
Totally killed off the domestic 50 over competition and people
wonder why we did so badly in the World Cup, but that's another
discussion for another thread! However, I will say I don't
begrudge any player leaving their county to go and play 100,
when in most cases they will be getting a years salary for a
months work!

There is considerable doubt as to whether the Hundred makes a
profit. There is no independent audit and one county accountant
suggests it actually makes a loss if the admin costs incurred by
the ECB are factored in. And of course I doubt if the huge costs
to set it up have ever been recovered.
Participation numbers may not have increased, probably fallen,
though the Women's game may have benefitted.
Then when you sell the teams and inevitably the broadcasting
rights, the ECB and counties will lose control threatening the
counties and the Blast.
My view of the product is very poor.

Completely agree. It’d be remiss to not acknowledge the pros of
the 100, it did get kids involved in the first couple of years,
showcases women’s cricket, attracts/ed lots of top players,
great TV coverage. But we can’t forget the many negatives just
because the casual fan can’t see them - as you mention, the 50
over comp is a laughing stock.
1. We (Essex) are struggling to field a team at this point,
mostly due to the 100, partly due to injury and a couple of
players being rested because the value of the comp has been
completely diminished. Makes an amazing format of cricket like
an under 21’s competition. Imagine Djokovic not playing
Wimbledon because there’s more money/coverage to play somewhere
else.
2. Having 8 teams in 8 locations and ignoring some of the most
well supported and loyal county cricket teams remains awful for
me. Why should Kent or Somerset fans travel multiple hours to
see a team that bares no resemblance to one that could be
playing at their home ground, other than a couple of players?
How did the ECB tell Somerset fans their “affiliated team” plays
in Cardiff with a serious face?!
3. The biggest and most obvious - why couldn’t this money and
publicity be injected into the blast to make every team and fan
feel included?
