These new Laws have me baffled after having played and
officiated at senior level since 1962.
An opponent follows through after shooting and kicks his
opponent, third party gets involved and suddenly we have a
penalty given for the offender and a yellow card given to the
innocent party.
It's a funny old game but wil be much better when all contact
is removed or penalised.

That is the striker’s foot kicking on to the defender’s leg -
the block is across the path of the ball rather than into to the
attacker.
That's how it looked to me at first glance, however watching the
replays the manner in which Dumfries challenges leaves a lot to
be desired. It's not simply a case of the attacker kicking the
defender's blocking foot.
I just can’t agree.
The defender’s foot is moving near 90 degrees across the way the
attacker is facing / kicking. If the defender was moving some
way towards the attacker as part of the charge down / block then
I would understand it and say maybe you run the risk.
What is this more of?
The attacker kicking into the defender’s foot as part of a
follow through.
The defender kicking into the attacker as part of
challenging them for the ball.
For me, it certainly is the former rather than the latter. We
want a higher threshold for penalising physical contact where
there is a consequence of the action and this nowhere meets the
threshold - it’s normal football contact following a shot that
is going high and handsome.
Where we can agree is that it isn’t a clear and obvious error
that warrants intervention from the VAR.

Aside from our England bias, the problem with the decision is
that it is absolutely not one that VAR should be intervening
with. If it’s not given, very few people are complaining. Now
it’s been given and if the Netherlands lose, this will 100% be a
forever talking point.

Was very interesting to catch in the background what looked like
Zwayer blowing the final whistle and then immediately sprinting
off the field.
A tad disrespectful imo

He'd probably been told there was an expected pitch invasion and
to get himself out of there. It didn't happen, but if the
police and stewards tell you to get off the pitch at full time
you are going to do it.

I can accept either decision on the penalty. They aren't
normally given when there is contact after the attacker has got
the shot away, but there's no doubt the defender's foot was high
and made contact.
But what I just cannot accept is that it was even close to a
clear and obvious error. Obviously great for England, but there
is no way VAR should have got themselves involved there.

Only one player kicks his opponent and it certainly isn't
Dumfries. Normal attempt at a block and just nothing to see
until Kane rolls around for twenty minutes to insinuate that
there was a deliberate kick from his opponent.
English players tonight were definitely falling around to try to
get decisions, perhaps the furore unleashed by our media had
some effect.

Thought Zwayer was excellent tonight under considerable
pressure, however think he was thrown under a bus by his
colleague in var and a pity he didnt have the courage to stick
with his initial decision.
For me not a penalty kick, if Kane misses the ball there is no
contact, the contact is initiated by the attacker following
through into the space of the defender.
If a defender cant be allowed to try to block a shot for fear of
being penalised then tackling will have to be banned.
I would say it was a natural coming together at best and the
still pictures dont do what happened justice.
With the Luck England are getting this tournament it looks like
their name is written on it.
Kudos to Ollie Watkins for a great finish, i might be biased but
he has been doing that most of the season.
If Southgate were to pick him in place of Kane for the final, i
can see the pigs flying as i write, he would frighten the life
out of the Spanish defence with his pace.

Just watched it on catch up. If that’s a penalty then we might
as well all pack up. Let’s be Frank the Dutch were robbed. I
have no doubt that if that decision had been given against
England we woukd have been up in arms about it.
England must be the luckiest and most mediocre team ever to
reach a Euro final.
