Followed by another missed yellow card (possibly even a red for
SFP) 2 minutes later. Not even sure he awarded a foul!

Obviously 2nd half playing to different interpretations. 2 clear
YC's missed. Terrible 2nd half for officials.

Missed second yellow card followed quickly by a very clear
missed foul and yellow card on Trippier and then a possible
missed YC ( I favour a YC) for a foul on Rice. A poor 3/4 minute
spell for Meler.

Hes been shocking thought two yellows early one were soft (think
Mainoo was one and one for Slovakia)
Slovakia should be down to 10
Get him on the next plane, he can car share with Southgate t9
the airport

Now a good call for no penalty on Bellingham. Possible SYC for
simulation but no call more expected.

Unfortunately my Turkish tip has let me down in the 2nd half.
Consistency has gone out of the window, at least 3 YCs missed,
one of which would have been a 2YC.
AR2 will be very disappointed with lack of flag in real time
I agree this will probably be their last appearance (they can
watch the QFs with the England team!!)

Early posts on this thread are way off and I agree with the
comments regarding a possible correlation between how England
are performing and comments on the officials.
First half he didn’t get much wrong. Perhaps one soft free kick
and I’d say the second Slovakia caution (for what I assume was a
reckless challenge on Bellingham) was harsh. Everything else is
spot on - high caution count does not necessarily equal poor
refereeing.
The disallowed England goal should be spotted in real time by
the AR and that alone will likely see this be the Turkish trio
have no further involvement in the tournament. I haven’t seen
the claimed missed 2YC for SPA so can’t comment. The challenge
on Trippier is not a YC. It’s not SPA and I don’t think it
crosses into the reckless category. I certainly don’t think it’s
nailed on for a caution (which, rightly or wrongly, you want it
to be for a 2YC).

A marked change in his approach to the second half. Clearly
wanted to stamp his authority with his cards in the first half,
which worked to a large degree. It does lead him to face claims
of inconsistency in the second half, where certainly #19 for
Slovakia would’ve had one possibly two yellows in the first
half…

It will I think be Meler’s last game. It likely would have been
regardless but I think now for sure he will go home without
another middle. Not because of his strict approach in the first
half but because he deviated too far from it in the second. I
always feel sympathy when a referee’s worst mistake is missing a
YC, which as it happened should have been a second YC.
Meler did many things right, including a number of penalty
appeals and most YCs given/not given. Ultimately though the
defining period in the performance, in my view, was between the
59th and 64th minute in which he made a succession of sloppy and
quite obvious errors.
Hopefully he can recover in extra time.
