S MARCINIAK - Belgium v Romania

Excellent from Marciniak this evening, has let a really good
game flow.
All the cards were warranted and he’s hardly been noticed.

I agree. This is a really good game to watch and Marciniak had
done much to enhance the spectacle. Lesser referees would clamp
down on everything, give lots of free kicks and cards and so
make it easier to officiate. Marciniak's confidence and
authority is obvious to see and most impressive. No wonder he's
rated as one of the best in the world.

Interesting that last goal.
De Bruyne is held in the area when through on goal, he then
plays the ball, catching the keeper in the knee with his studs
on follow through and the ball goes in the goal.
So I guess the referee and VAR should disallow the goal, send
off the Romanian player for DOGSO, award a penalty to Belgium
for that foul, but also send off De Bruyne for SFP on the
goalkeeper.
Easy call surely! ;)
However maybe, to paraphrase, you referee best, when you don't
referee at all!

Thought he had an excellent game. Didn’t miss anything as I
recall.
However did anyone else think he liked a little laboured as if
he had a slight injury. He seemed very one paced.

I agree he had an excellent game. Didn't get the impression of
an injury. He doesn't sprint about the pitch like a demented
whippet. In a more traditional approach he relies on positioning
which always seemed spot on to me ( and to the commentators )

He reads the game very well which enables him to be in good
positions

Ditto everything said, an excellent performance from one of the
world’s leading referees which helped enhance a really good
game. Find it surprising that this was his first outing given
that some refs have had 2 games already so maybe something in
the carrying an injury suggestion or maybe because he is going
to feature prominently later in the competition.

Was really nice to hear Ally McCoist praising Marciniak
yesterday. Refs rarely get praise from pundits though McCoist is
one of the less egotistical ones.
Marciniak makes refereeing look like an art. Seamless.
