A very good first half from Orsato. Played some really good
advantages and dealt with the minor handbags calmly and
efficiently.
It wasn’t going to take long for a Serbia player to go into the
book for fouling Bellingham.

He’s been impressive so far. Not sure he’s given a ‘soft’ free
kick yet, and that’s always tempting when one (or both teams)
like to tackle hard.
Dealt with Bellingham’s slight aggression in the first half
sensibly. Just under the threshold for a caution.

I think he’s been fairly lenient with dissent on several
occasions, but otherwise this is a very typical Orsato display.
Whatever he lacks in mobility/positioning he more than makes up
for with exceptional match control.

The outstanding thing about Orsato is that he makes keeping
control look so effortless. A very good performance from him
this evening. His years of experience shining through.

His match control was very good but I wonder if other referees
will appreciate the leniency he showed to dissent contrary to
Rosetti's dictat.
And Serbia might be in for a shock if they do the same with a
different referee in charge. Bellingham took some stick early
on and I felt Orsato was a bit late in producing a YC.
Interesting to see him hugged by a Serbian player at the end of
the game so no doubting the respect in which he's held.

Superb performance. Full control and acceptance from both teams,
using plenty of Italian mannerisms! Used all his experience and
was very keen to keep the game moving. Clearly had done his
research and knew England will happily keep the ball, rather
than let Serbia break the play up with fouls. When too many
built up, gave the first YC, almost as a team totting up
consequence. Waved the right things away for both teams - only
Kane got one or two I’d have been tempted to wave on. Though he
was excellent overall.

Thought he was really good. The players obviously like and
respect him, they know he is firm and no nonsense but that he
will be fair with them. He tends to shout at them and tell them
off rather than resorting to cards, and every player is going to
appreciate that approach.

tournament ends.

I have seen only one Serie A match live. It was in 2007 and the
referee was Daniele Orsato beginning what would turn out to be a
glorious career.
Assuming events do not deflect him, I think he must be
considered a very strong candidate for the Final for all sorts
of reasons but chiefly his talent at officiating.
I am at present in Crete. Watching matches with an excitable
Greek commentary is quite something and although I don't
understand one word in ten (barring names) it certainly adds to
the atmosphere.
