Michael Oliver - Spain vs Croatia

Excellent first half from all 3 officials blending into the
background and allowing a good game of football to be played

Not sure I quite agree. Nothing major at all, but thought Oliver
wasn’t his usual self somehow - not quite relaxed? Quite fussy
at times, I thought, particularly in the first 30mins. A few too
many soft free kicks, some of which weren’t actually fouls, just
players falling over looking for a FK. Unusual for an English
ref, as with both teams playing very fairly with no drama or
gamesmanship, thought he could have played on a bit more, like
Turpin and Vincic. One wrong GK/corner.
Good advantage late on for CRO nearly resulted in goal. Now it’s
3:0, he can hopefully have easy, quiet second half.

BBC Radio stating wasn’t a red on the penalty due to an attempt
to play the ball?
Not sure on that?

I thought the Croatia player clipped his own heels but I haven’t
had the luxury of watching multiple replays yet. Must have been
very close to a red card too - I’m not sure there was much
“challenging for the ball” by Rodri. Regardless of what Law
says, I think in reality now most challenges using the feet are
penalised with a YC and only pushing/holding/handball gets the
RC DOGSO treatment

Once given, I think it has to be a RC. Trip and no way the
defender was making a genuine attempt.
Thought he relaxed a bit second half although still a few more
soft fouls. Good call by Attwell on encroachment. Does not
giving that (needing VAR) count against Oliver as an error? He
was actually not aware enough of the wide player so didn’t see
him at all.

Was the keeper off the line at the penalty? Missed it in real
time so cannot recheck

I thought his back leg was in the air , but in line with the
goal line. I think this is allowed in Law.

They didn't show a replay in line with the goal line, but it
looked like the GK's trailing foot was in line with the goal
line.

Wasnt sure it was a penalty kick.
Wasnt sure it was a red card, so safe to go yellow.
Definate encroachment behjnd Olivers position well picked up by
var.
3/3 blue bmb def has in an influence me thinks.

Not sure about penalty as well, certainly not clear and obvious
and right for me to go yellow.
Best performance so far in the 3 games, but I think Oliver can
go even better than he did tonight!
