       C TURPIN - Germany v Scotland

Good VAR intervention by Brisard to reverse the penalty
       decision.
Also the message that captains can only speak to the officials
has been well understood, and Robertson did well in shooing his
team mates away when the penalty was awarded.

Porteous is going to walk for that shocking challenge on
Gundogan. Definite leg breaker and has to be a penalty.
I’m a little surprised that someone of the calibre of Turpin
missed that in real time as he had a great view.

Good VAR review for the red card for Porteous, was high and
studs caught him above the ankle, definite red card

Reminded me of the Romero red card in Spurs v Chelsea game last
season. Good use of VAR. I’m enjoying his management and
enforcement of the “captain only” directive for this tournament.

Not the finest opening match for Turpin with VAR bailing out two
       incorrect decisions.
Even though the first one is pretty tight as to what happened in
terms of location of the foul, the second intervention with the
penalty and red card would be a verdict that would and should
have been given on the field pretty conclusively.
Other than that, an easy match for Turpin.

Three including the offside 5th German goal.
Interesting to see what comes next for Turpin. A strange night,
as I thought he was very competent in general play, yet they
made 3 errors requiring VAR intervention. A penny for Mr
Rosetti’s thoughts as he watched on in the stands..

If UEFA stick strictly to the markings that will have killed
Turpin's chances of progression. VAR correcting your decisions
doesn't protect the referee, so he is looking at 2 incorrect
KMDs and a horrendously low mark, going to be at best 7.4.

Positives: VAR, SAT and the new discipline with captains have
been received warmly by the wider fan base.
Negatives: Not the best night for team ref, you really shouldn't
be having 3 overturned decisions by VAR when you are an elite
       level official.

Agree with the above on the Porteous incident. However, not so
sure that I would fault Turpin for the earlier penalty incident
which was overturned. I didn't see it as a foul in real time and
full marks to CT for spotting it. Having seen the foul, he had
to make a decision and (correct me if I'm wrong), if he had
awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, presumably VAR
would not have been able to intervene, even if it had been
proved that the incident took place in the penalty area. In
situations such as this, surely it was better for a penalty to
be awarded and then overturned with the minimum of fuss and
controversy? That's surely why VAR is in place, is it not?
Germany's 5th goal, very tight on the offside, but again, VAR
(semi-automated) quickly confirmed that it was not offside, and
Turpin was certainly not in a position to disagree.
One further positive, the ITV team regularly praised Turpin
(rightly) and there appeared to be no hissy fits at half time or
full time (although I didn't watch all of that time). Long may
       that continue!
