Poor decision to allow Arsenal winning goal, lent into the ball
with the arm,VAR suggested review but Oliver refused to change
his mind

Perfectly good goal he couldn’t really do much his arm was by
his side he couldn’t move it

It was a bizarre decision to send Oliver to the screen by
Attwell, given it was never going to be a handball in a million
years. Worrying given that Attwell is going to the Euros with
Oliver (and Taylor) as VAR...
Should also add, a usual, trouble-free performance by Oliver.
Dealt with a few wild, desperate lunges from Arsenal players
well, and tried to stay out of the game as much as possible.

Maybe Attwell wanted to let Oliver make his own mind up because
of the importance of the occation and that a possible handball
offence would've been very hard to detect in real time? I know
this isn't really according to protocol but I have seen it
happen before (not in England, but in other leagues) and is
something I could personally support for game management
purposes as well as for transparency (the fans can see that it's
clearly been evaluated by the on-field referee and not just VAR)

Hopefully this is a clip we'll hear if there's another show with
Howard Webb (I thought there might be one this week but can't
find one in the schedules?) I know there's meant to be something
about Gillett and Palace V Man Utd at some point.

Dermot's view was it wasn't handball, supported by the 2 pundits
although they were concerned about the inconsistencies from week
to week depending on who was referee. Amused me that the poll
among RefWatch viewers had 67% saying it was handball and
Arsenal's 2nd goal should have been disallowed. Perhaps that
reflects the confusion of fans regarding handball, or simply
that polls are not worth much. This latter reason was backed up
by the fact that only 33% said Chelsea should have had a penalty
for the challenge on Sterling, which all 3 in the studio said
was a foul and VAR should have intervened. Let's see what the
review panel make of those 2 incidents.
When focus was understandably on the City and Arsenal games, it
was interesting to see there were a few other controversial
decisions under scrutiny on RefWatch - notably Andy Madley
having to overturn a RC for what turned out to be non-existent
VC for a kick.

The bloke saying that he didn’t want different decisions from
different referees and calling for more consistency. I note that
his request for consistency came with a total lack of a
solution. The only solution that would get a totally consistent
view of handball in every single game would be that ANY touch on
the hand or arm is handball. Whether deliberate or not.
I would love to see that brought in for a season just to see the
pundits fall over themselves to say how it’s ruined the game.
