I personally think that Mike Dean will aim for 500 PL games
before stepping down, which will presumably mean that he will
carry on for one more season after this one (at least). I think
its 473 or 474 at the moment.
Really sorry to hear about James Adcock and I wish him well in
whatever he does in the future, hopefully within football.
Russell Booth was another promising ref from Notts whose career
came to a premature end due to injury.
James Linington - mixed views on him as a SG1 candidate. A good
ref at SG2 level and plenty of top games in the Championship but
not sure whether he's ready to move up a level. Shouldn't do but
I wonder whether his past injury record may count against him.
I think we already know about the retirement of Richard Clark;
also Mark Brown and Darren Handley. Graham Horwood has not been
seen at all this season and Mark Heywood has not been seen for a
while. I would not be surprised if Lee Collins calls it a day
and Rob Lewis is another who seems to spend a lot of the time on
the physio's couch rather than the field of play. I cannot
imagine either that Roger East will continue at SG1 or Andy
Woolmer at SG2 for too much longer.
So plenty of scope for promotions at all levels, and I for one
really hope that Rob Jones gets tested out this season on the
PL.

always did well at Dean Court when we played in the proper
leagues.

I was always impressed with Linington at Championship level and
personally I think he should have been promoted ages ago,
although I know he's had some injury issues - he might not have
been one of the very best but I think he could have been a solid
and reliable performer like Probert and Swarbrick generally
were.

It’s interesting that we rarely, if ever, get comments on James
Linington’s matches on here though he does get plenty of
Championship games. Is this because folk can’t be bothered to
post or, more likely, there are no controversial incidents to
speak of and therefore by implication he had done a decent job.
By contrast the usual suspects - Simpson, Davies, Langford,
Woolmer etc - regularly get negative views on here for their
underwhelming performances.

I'll be honest in that's I've only seen Linington once in the
last five years live, and that was at a Craven Cottage in the
Championship vs Wolves in the forgettable Felix 'the dictator '
Magath era. He was terrible.
That said, that was five years ago nearly and more people have
seen him than I have, so I can't really comment on whether he is
suitable for the next stage. Others who have more exposure to
the delights of the Championship, and the associated dross in
there, are better candidates to speak for him.

I think Darren handley is trying to get back for next season but
not sure!

Generally I like James Linington as a referee and feel that he
is worthy of a place on the SG2. Although he is certainly not
part of the dross group I feel that he lacks that extra quality
and consistency to push on and progress.

As I've posted on another thread, my top tip for promotion is
James Oldham from 2A to National List.
I haven't actually seen him and am basing this purely on the
appointments he's been getting.

I think AR Peter Kirkup might call it a day at the end of the
season as he has injured a fair bit this season and his PL
appointments have dwindled however I could be wrong

Any relation to Scott Oldham? Doubt they'll be many Oldham's
around.

I'm presuming SG2 will act as VAR as I know a ref who knows a
SG2 ref and he is doing training for it
