Preston v Leicester - Sam Allison

Nothing much to say apart from the fact that this guy has been a
standout in a season of confused officiating. It was not the
toughest game, but once again he blended into the background,
foul detection great, use of advantage exceptional.
I hope he gets a championship play off semi final because his
performances deserve it. It’ll be interesting to see how many
Premier league games he gets next year. I’d have him there from
the start.

Has been the standout referee in the championship this season,
always calm with his decision making, with a smile on his face.
Seems to have an excellent rapport with the players. Will be
fully deserved if he gets his place in SG1 next season.

You make that seem like an indisputable fact as opposed to
merely your opinion.
He has done two games at Portman Road. One was quite frankly
rather poor, the other was better. I would rate him as average
at best but would not be at all surprised to see him promoted.

I would agree - the twice I have seen him he has been adequate -
neither game tested him - not his fault - but it appears the
games he has been given have been carefully picked to protect
him ? Always seems to be a reactionary official rather than
someone who is proactive, a trait with most modern, heavily
coached referees
Have no doubt though that he will be promoted at the end of the
season

Best refereeing performance at Dean Court this season was Sam &
we've had a few decent performances.

I thought that he had an excellent game at Deepdale last night.
Well done Sam.

Not sure I agree about the games picked to protect him thing.
He’s refereed all of the promotion hopefuls a number of times as
well as important games for teams at the bottom of the table
recently. When he was appointed to last night’s game, there was
a strong chance that it would’ve been a highly crucial game in
the promotion race, like some of the others he’s done recently.
He’s refereed us three times this season and the games have been
unremarkable partly due to his style of refereeing which
benefits teams who want to play.

In that none of us, I presume, has access to the official
verdict on referees' performances then every comment on this
forum as to who has done well or not so well must be subjective
and an expression of opinion. I just assume that all comments
actually begin "in my opinion " but it is surely unnecessary to
write it every time.

Similarly, you make your opinion sound like an indisputable fact
as well. Let’s just assume that everyone is quoting opinions,
and not call that out every time.

Fair point. But I would say my "indisputable fact" was based on
a couple of matches I was at. I'm not sure how many of the 540
Championship matches the original poster saw to arrive at his
"indisputable fact". ;)
