I think that is absolutely scandalous that they can make claims
like that about our referees without any facts to back them up.
Seems like a hatchet job, and claiming there is a bias to to the
big teams from referees is utter dross. The reason the big teams
appear to get more favourable decisions is because they have
more of the Ball and therefore more chances in areas to get the
decisions. It’s simple maths and probability!

Whether he is right or not he hopelessly undermines himself with
some ludicrous statements. The first sentence: 'The English
Premier League is the best football league in the world', then
'The Premier League has the world's best players.' Ha. He
criticises a stadium with one of the best atmospheres in the
country. I happen to disagree with much of what he has written
about referees too but he is entitled to his opinion.

To be fair I think his article is poppycok and not well written
he obviously doesn't know football doesn't have rules but laws.
The essence of those laws a lot of the time is that it's open to
an individuals opinion, which will always differ and the
ambiguous use of the word deliberate like in handball. One
persons deliberate will not be the same as another and never
mind how match they try to talk about natural arm positions etc
you'll never get a universal opinion as identified on here by
the sites contributors.
Having said that I don't think it would be harmful for the elite
referees and catergory 1 referees on FIFA to do games in other
countries and that would add to their refereeing experiences and
get them used to top matches for the later stages of the
European countries. The problem I see there is would they then
be considered for these later stages if they'd referee them a
couple of times in the domestic Leagues.
I read with interest the comments of Tweed and Edy on the
Scottish thread about using other refs and I see both points of
view. If an elite ref from Greece can't be trusted with a greek
derby that's quite worrying but if reffing on another European
League can make him better too than why not. As for
Rangers/Celtic in Scotland haven't they always thought they
bigger than the League up there? Throw in the now departed Mr
Lennon and well enough said. Though correct me Tweed, if I'm
wrong I think Mr Gerrard was more concerned with the official
sanctions following reviews and the inconsistencies there and
not heard him moan too much, again correct me about the on field
ref.
I've never really been a fan of SG1/SG2 etc and thought the old
system was better as to when it was Liverpool one week and
Exeter say the next. I think this may/may not have built
familiarity with certain teams as lots of contributors on here
say certain refs aren't good enough to ref the big 6. Well if
they don't do the big 6 how are we meant to know? I aalso here
the contributors bemoan an SG1 official doing the lower leagues
and saying they look bored. I don't recall that been the case
when there was no SG1. Nor do I personally think they take a
game that's not premier league any less seriously.
Ultimately the aim has to be to improve the standards of
refereeing across the board be it domestically or
internationally and if having officials reffing in other
countries is a way to do it then I'd be all for it.
VAR is coming and I personally don't like it in the forms I've
seen. I don't like the fact a Video ref can overturn a penalty
or a foul without the ref looking at it he/she should ahve the
final say on matters of opinions and the VAR should invite them
to look at the situation. Matters of fact I have no issue with.
Lots to talk about but that's why we love the game

Oh dear. Not that again.
Of course football has rules and it chooses to call them,
collectively, the Laws of the Game.
I don't know if the rest of your thread is any better as when I
see this comment I don't read on !

I have long felt that the smaller teams in the Premier League do
not get the rub of the green with referees' decisions and there
is a massive litany of empirical evidence to back up that
assertion. More so than can be just dismissed as simple maths
and probability.
I must say I have seen fewer perceived injustices this year.
Maybe I've been watching less Premier League football as Ipswich
get further and further away from it.
I certainly wouldn't dismiss all of his comments.

Written by a Watford season ticket holder who remembers a
penalty not given for his team against Liverpool in November
2018 but forgets that his team were the benefactors from a
wrongly disallowed offside goal which Burnley scored just last
month and were denied three points because of it.
It is all swings and roundabouts, however, I do worry about the
direction in which our game is going and the introduction of
foreign referees would, in my opinion, take it closer to what
UEFA seem to want with every handball being penalised, fair
tackles being penalised because an opponent feels a bit of
contact and starts rolling around on the floor etc., etc.
It is a contact sport which has survived the test of time for
well over 100 years and yet the authorities seem intent on
stopping tackling, heading and goodness knows what. Where will
it all end?

I would take issue with his reference to PL refs 'lurking back a
little', with the inference that this has something to do with
their fitness. PL refs are fitter now than ever before. Yes,
they do hang back at times but they are trained to do this
rather than get in the way in the penalty area as they used to
do. Positioning is all important now and that applies not only
to the refs but to their ARs as well. And as for the suggestion
that Mike Dean looked like an awestruck fan of Aguero, what a
load of tosh ???

I Do Find it hilarious when pundits suggest bringing in foreign
referees, as if they are perfect referees who never get anything
wrong, you go into another country and you are bound to find the
exact same critisicms of referees. The Comparison with foreign
players is absurd.
