So a match between two Essex sides, just 13 miles apart, gets a
referee from Stoke and two Assistants from Sheffield and Derby.
The Derby one actually comes, more specifically, from Melbourne
so he should feel at home at Chelmsford's Melbourne Park.
Mind you, the referee from Stafford, Niall Smith, that they sent
to Braintree for Tuesday's eliminator against Bath had an
excellent match and I hope to see Mr Maskrey do likewise.

Clearly no-one at Traffic management thought this was a
possibility and have chosen this weekend to shut J2 to J3 on the
M180. Fortunately most Boston fans will come in from the east of
this but leave plenty of time to get there!
If I was Zac, I'd go Friday evening and stay somewhere

Interesting to see that they've brought Zac down from step 1 to
officiate the step 2 semi final, wonder if this is because of
the expected crowd size on Saturday?
I saw on X that Scunthorpe have sold nearly 7500 tickets with
Boston making up 1500 of that

fingers crossed for those who may be in with a shot for a final

I doubt it's to do with crowd. You would find that Step 2 (and
Step 3 & 4) appointments would be mixtures of officials from
current level and last mid-season promotions (to higher level).

It could be argued that this is a more appropriate level for
Zac.
I have seen him a couple of times and friends more often.
None of us were even slightly convinced that he is 2A material

Ben Atkinson did the NLS playoff final last year so being
appointed to these games is no indictment of their ability.
Elliott Bell who is clearly being prepared for a big future has
also officiated at this stage.

For what it's worth, which may not be a great deal, the Radio
Lincolnshire commentators were fulsome in their praise of his
handling of the game. This opinion was expressed in the tense
period before the penalties and their subsequent elation on
Boston's behalf. I'd wrongly envisaged that because Scunthorpe
is in historic Lincolnshire a more neutral stance might have
been taken.
