Retiring Referees

It's the time of year when a number of referees may be
contemplating hanging up their whistles and lanyards, either
with a sense of sadness or perhaps even with a sense of relief.
But who will they be? I think we can assume that Darren Handley
and Rob Lewis will not appear on the list again and there must
be a question mark about James Oldham, although I have seen his
name in the appointments at a lower level. As many of you know,
I maintain a database of 'final games' for retiring referees and
I welcome additions for this season. But please, please, no 'my
second cousin twice removed thinks that...', rather confirmed
retirements, preferably with evidence to back it up, thank you.
AT.

I think Graham Scott from the SG1 will be one whether he wants
to or not, he will be a reluctant one off the list

I think it was confirmed that Darren Handley and Rob Lewis
retired to become assessors last summer and James Oldham was
“demoted” to the National League, either from his own choice or
PGMOL choice, we don’t know. I’d be very happy to see him back
on the National List next season though.
There’s certainly some referees who have received an
unfavourable amount of appointments this year at their level
(Doughty, Simpson, Whitestone, Linington) and some who have had
injury issues over the last couple of years (Hair, Pollard,
possibly others), so we’ll see in due course. With the amount of
trial games this season, there seems to be an interest in
bulking up the National list i’d say

Please let us stick to factual information.
Just to know, Rob Lewis is a PGMOL Coach, not an Observer.

I thought it was confirmed on a thread earlier this season, but
I could be wrong - however, a season with only appointments in
the national league would be enough for me to assume

If he want to remain on the list and passes his fitness tests it
would be difficult and harsh to try to remove him

Might be worth keeping an eye on Darren Drysdale.
He has been appointed to the Muratti Vase (Sat 18th May 2024,
Jersey v Guernsey).
He is 53 and it is sometimes a retirement "plum"

Has it been announced if its the swansong for Scott, Cann &
West?
Having the three of them on the same game sounds ominous

I spoke with him yesterday and he is not retiring
