Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Wrexham FC (First Team)
       Football League 2
       Referee: Stockbridge, Sebastian
       Assistant Referee: Fyvie, Graeme
       Assistant Referee: Gray, Alex
       Fourth Official: Edwards, Marc
Two major talking points in this long-awaited game at Gresty
Road. The first came when a Crewe player fouled a Wrexham player
who reacted in fury by putting his head in the face of the Crewe
player. Perhaps it was the initial foul that saved the Wrexham
player but there were many in the Main Stand who were astonished
when he saw yellow rather than red, with the Crewe player also
seeing yellow for the foul. Wise as the decision may have been,
unfortunately the same Wrexham player was then involved no more
than a minute later in the 2nd Wrexham goal. The second incident
came in the 2nd half when Crewe's Ryan Cooney was red carded for
deliberately bringing the ball down with his hand to stop a
Wrexham break through the middle. The decision was entirely
correct but the Crewe fans were howling about the injustice of
the first half yellow and the 2nd half red. Other than that, Seb
didn't have a lot to do in a game which became a
walk-in-the-park for Wrexham, and it was a pity in my view that
he was booed off at half time and full time. Wrexham are clearly
destined for greater things whilst Crewe must hope to get a
result at Colchester next weekend and/or hope that others in the
hunt for the playoffs slip up.

I thought he had three important decisions to make during the
game the first when the Crewe player fouled James Mclean who
reacted in his usual manner by grabbing the Crewe player and
putting his head into his face to me it was intentional and he
had lost his control and it was RED Card. Both players shown a
       yellow card.
The second incident leading up to the 2nd goal Paul Mullins was
being challenged by the Crewe defender and he put his fingers
clearly in the defenders eyes, for which he went down play
allowed to continue and Mullins scores.
In the 54th minute the Crewe defender was in front of the
Wrexham attacker on the touch line, who pushes the Crewe
defender who touches the ball with his hand as he his falling.,
stops play and sends him off for denying a goal scoring
       opportunity.
Wrexham are a good side and deserved to be promoted, and were
worthy winners on the day all you want from a referee is to get
the major decisions correct and i am afraid this experienced
referee didn't do it on this performance.

Happy with Darren Drysdale and team at Notts County today, a
pretty dull affair with just one major officiating talking
point, a penalty denied for a shirt pull on Jodi Jones - haven’t
seen the replay, but thought live, you’ve “seen them given”.
Dealt with everything well, mandatory bookings and was quick to
shut down any set piece shenanigans - his gestures are very
clear and strong, which I did like.
If my U’s lose to the bang in form Doncaster on Tuesday, it’s a
monster of a game against the Alex next weekend! Wouldn’t
surprise me if TV cameras and possibly a SG2 come our way.

1 post has already been made about Seb Stockbridge at Crewe v
Wrexham so I’m not going to comment in too much detail. But here
       goes.
Incident 1- James McClean “potential” red card. He got booked
for this. Fine. But I would’ve gave him a second yellow card for
the same thing again. He continued to argue and cause arguments
after he was booked. Seb should’ve said “enough is enough,
anymore and you’re off.” Cause if he did, then he would’ve been
sent off. I don’t think it’s a law but, imo, aggrevating the
crowd purposefully should be an automatic yellow. For example,
when a team scores and one player starts to celebrate and
antagonise the crowd should be a yellow. Because if that law is
to be made, then several Wrexham players (including McClean)
would’ve been booked. McClean was hooked off at HT, presumably
so he didn’t get sent off.
Several other fouls were missed for both teams, with a guessing
game of what’s going to be given.
Incident 2- Ryan Cooney’s handball. No doubt it’s a handball
but, from the replay, Paul Mullin pushes Cooney right before the
handball therefore shouldn’t it of been a foul? Also, why was it
       a red card? It wasn’t deliberate I don’t think and it wasn’t
DOGSO. Unless my mind is going crazy, a yellow card is what I
       would’ve given here.

Don’t think the TV cameras will be showing a 3pm kick off and
they’ve already chosen Derby v Carlisle in League One for their
       lunchtime game.

Yes I find that odd as well, considering the race for play-offs
and we could drop out! I’d have Colchester v Crewe on tv purely
because of the stake of the game if you lose on Tuesday.

I've only seen the brief highlights so in respect of the first
incident can only agree in principle with your remarks. There is
far more risk of crowd reaction to away players goading home
fans than some other offences with mandatory YCs There were two
occasions at Prenton Park, Alex Gibley for Milton Keynes and Jay
Williams for Crawley where the referee said nothing to the
player doing that to the home crowd after scoring and where
there hadn't been any clear provocation from the spectators. In
the first example, the very experienced Darren Drysdale was in
       the middle.
I thought Mr Stocksbridge got the second incident you highlight
wrong. There is a shove on Cooney before he touches the ball,
but even if the referee felt that wasn't a foul and Cooney
having his arms well away from his body at the time of contact
by Mullin, did amount to handball, it's only just inside the
Crewe half and there is at least one covering defender further
back, so should be YC at worst.

Tranmere Rovers FC (First Team) v AFC Wimbledon (First Team)
       Referee: Rock, David
       Assistant Referee: Clayton, Alan
       Assistant Referee: Brown, Conor
       Fourth Official: Raper, Lewis
First time since NL days that I've been at a Rovers game with Mr
Rock officiating. No issues with his fitness and positioning.
Wimbledon seemed to be re-creating the Crazy Gang's approach to
football, with a lot of fouling to break up play and rather a
negative approach given they were the team still with something
to play for. Mr Rock was wise to the tactic and called a number
of fouls correctly, I liked the way he didn't play on for
optimistic advantages, but it wasn't until around the 40th
minute that a YC produced. I suspect a number of his colleagues
       would be more prolific.
The one point of controversy was the RC for Wimbledon's O'Toole.
The referee was much closer to the action than me and it was a
very strong challenge, making contact on Merrie, but having
looked at the highlights, it's hard to make out other
aggravating features like studs showing. O'Toole was already on
Mr Rock's radar after previous warnings, but I'm unsure if it
was the right call to go red.
