Robert Jones - Sheff U v Chelsea

Overall a pretty solid display. Let play flow well, kept
discipline between the players, though it was a relatively easy
game to referee as not particularly spiky.
However, I'd be interested in opinions on what looked to me
serious foul play by Robinson for a tackle on Palmer. Came in
from behind, calf height, straight leg, with force. Ball was
long gone. He was given a yellow but I think it should have been
recommended for a red.

Was an okay performance in a decently physical game.
Up until the last 15 minutes plus stoppage time when he
seemingly decided he didn’t want to be talked about on the telly
and became completely risk averse, giving everything to the
defending side. Chris Wilder particularly not happy about a
terrible tackle on Mcburnie, and a free kick seemingly given to
Chelsea In order to avoid having to make a controversial
decision either way for a possible hand ball in the box in
injury time.
Correct decision for the tackle mentioned in the OP.

Here’s a better link to the tackle. Meets the criteria for a red
IMO

A mistake by Jones and VAR Paul Tierney, this is a clear example
of SFP.

The more you watch it, the worse it gets. Absolutely nowhere
near the ball, off the ground, calf height, with force, from
behind.

On my 3rd view I felt it was 60/40 in favour of red so I have
plenty of empathy with jones decision. Var though should without
a doubt recommend a on field review.

For what it's worth, Dale Johnson believes this might be the 5th
missed red card for serious foul play this season. He states it
is "right on the borderline".
Play resumed almost immediately, which given the severity of the
tackle seems very surprising.

Dale Johnson reports this was one of two VAR errors recorded by
KMI panel from last weekend - the other was red card in Everton
V Burnley. (I think that might be first subjective VAR error
against Oliver this season.)
He also reports the Chelsea V Burnley penalty/red card a few
weeks ago was recorded as VAR error - first error Brooks has
made as VAR I believe this season according to panel.
He says 23 errors this season compared to 24 at same stage last
season. Most have been VARs failing to intervene when they
should have done - Johnson says only 5 interventions judged to
be wrong. I think it was 2 for a lot of the season so a few of
these must be from recent weeks but not sure what incidents.
