Luton v AFCB - Andy Madley

Excellent from the black wearing team ref today. Credit also to
both teams for no throwing themselves to the floor looking for
decisions, instead they jumped straight back up and carried on
after every tackle, little to no dissent (apart from 1 coach on
the AFCB bench who got a YC for it) and it made for a decent
watch. Madley let the game breath but jumped in when needed,
fair & consistent in his calls as to what was or wasn't a foul.
Played some very good advantages, one in particular in the build
up to AFCB's goal. Nice to see 3/4 AFCB players acknowledge the
advantage before racing off to celebrate the goal. Makes a nice
change from listening to teams to just whinge about any
perceived injustice, rightly or wrongly so very proud of my team
for actually noticeably acknowledging a great call. Both teams
did their bit to produce an entertaining game, well assisted by
team ref who made a valuable contribution to the game.
Not bothered by the defeat, it was a good watch, Luton never
gave up and once they got the equaliser I think there was only
ever going to be 1 result. They were more desperate for the
points. Yeah a win could have put us in a position where we
could dream about finishing in a Euro spot but we're not really
ready for that as a club yet, imo. It's only a few months ago we
were relegation certainties, apparently!
My only moan, if it can even be called a moan, was in the 31st
min Luton had a corner where the ball was a good 6-8 inches
outside of the D, opposite side and end to the ARs so team ref
had no chance of seeing it. Judging by their next corner a few
seconds later which took the corner taker about 1 min to place
the ball because it kept blowing away it may have been the only
spot there with enough of a dip to stop the ball blowing away!
The second one was quite funny to watch, literally every time he
took his hand off the ball off it went and he must have tried
about 10 different spots before it stayed still long enough for
him to kick it!!
Well done to all 3 teams for their contributions to a great game
of football. Hoping Luton stay up and we can have 2 more
TinpotDerbies next season.

Completely agree, I think Andy Madley’s “performance” was one of
the best this season. He let quite a lot go, didn’t book any
players apart from one of the Bournemouth coaching staff, but
had very good control.

He seemed to have a great rapport with both sets of players
which helps. They clearly like and respect him. I think his use
of advantage was excellent. He made the point of acknowledging
the foul which in turn helped sell decisions and have them
unquestionably accepted. He had a couple of quiet words, calmly
explained a couple of calls, quietly accepted by players. It
added to a positive game.
