For the umpteenth time, Altrincham and Manchester are two
completely separate places.
Not to us 'cockneys/people from daan saaf' maybe? It is
described as a town in Trafford, Greater Manchester, so whilst I
totally accept your point, I can see why people continue to make
these associations.
Ah yes, those ignorant southerners who think “the
north” is just one place…..
I live near to Rochdale, Greater Manchester. I don’t live
in Manchester. It’s no different to living in Altrincham.
Anyway, Greater Manchester was invented by politicians and
councillors. I actually live in Lancashire, while Anthony
resides in Cheshire.
That seems fairly straight forward compared to having to explain
to people you are from Walsall, which is not part of either
Wolverhampton nor Birmingham but is in the West Midlands and
also the Black Country!!

Not happy with Anthony Taylor on our game first city at the
Etihad, yes I have seen people on here post about the teams the
referees support being declared but he is still from Manchester
and the game is in Manchester and it could have major
implications for the title fight so I feel that a referee from
Manchester should not be referring the game
As has been said he has absolutely zero connection to Manchester
City Football Club. He's a very experienced international
referee who's integrity cannot be questioned, despite some very
poor performances which unfortunately have favoured Man City in
the past. However, Gillett on VAR is a Liverpool fan, that is a
legitimate question to ask as to why he has this game.
Possibly, but there's still nearly 2 months left of the season
and I think in many ways you just need to trust the officials to
get on with it. I'm not even sure what result would be best for
Liverpool!
I don't think that Gillett/Bankes/Jones/Salsbury officiate
Liverpool games? I'm not 100% sure on the reasons why in all
cases. You also have the likes of Taylor who's not been VAR on a
PL game for a few years and England who I don't think has been
VAR on a PL game since Spurs V Liverpool.
And if you're saying they can't be VAR you'd presumably also
think they shouldn't be able to referee Man City or Arsenal
either? What point do you apply that from? There's some refs who
are less experienced or not really in favour - I wouldn't
especially expect Scott, Bramall or Bond to referee Man City,
Arsenal or Liverpool at this stage of the season for instance.
SO before you know it you've ruled out a significant proportion
of SG1 refs from officiating three games most weeks for the last
10 matches of the season, which inevitably just leads to some
officials needing to do those games more often which people also
don't like.

I raised an eyebrow to see Harrington with a north-east team as
had assumed (wrongly) he would be precluded.

Hartlepool is about 30 mile away from Newcastle mind

Having family from MIDDLESBROUGH sic, I've seen at the sharp-end
when happens when they've been referred to as Geordies!

I believe AT has done VAR duties this calendar year
Irrespective of this though. Despite there being no overt
questions, it is hugely disrespectful when supporters of any
side cast aspersions on the integrity of any official.
Whether we rate them highly or not they have worked very hard,
made significant sacrifices and proved their quality and
ability.

Taylor has been VAR on FA Cup but I don't think PL? The same is
true for England.

Yeah I agree with that. At 0-0 as well.
