For the umpteenth time, Altrincham and Manchester are two
completely separate places.
Not to us 'cockneys/people from daan saaf' maybe? It is
described as a town in Trafford, Greater Manchester, so whilst I
totally accept your point, I can see why people continue to make
these associations.
Ah yes, those ignorant southerners who think “the north” is just
one place…..
I live near to Rochdale, Greater Manchester. I don’t live in
Manchester. It’s no different to living in Altrincham.
Anyway, Greater Manchester was invented by politicians and
councillors. I actually live in Lancashire, while Anthony
resides in Cheshire.

Midlands start at Ringwood and end at the Watford Gap - anything
beyond that point is passport country! [emoji6]

Not happy with Anthony Taylor on our game first city at the
Etihad, yes I have seen people on here post about the teams the
referees support being declared but he is still from Manchester
and the game is in Manchester and it could have major
implications for the title fight so I feel that a referee from
Manchester should not be referring the game
As has been said he has absolutely zero connection to Manchester
City Football Club. He's a very experienced international
referee who's integrity cannot be questioned, despite some very
poor performances which unfortunately have favoured Man City in
the past. However, Gillett on VAR is a Liverpool fan, that is a
legitimate question to ask as to why he has this game.
I’m puzzled by the poor performances favouring Man City bit and
would be interested in your examples.
From a City perspective, no strong views re Mr Taylor’s
appointment. There have been occasions where he doesn’t step in
early enough and players start taking the law into their own
hands, but generally he’s been fine.
Had Mr Gillet’s alliegance not been posted on here, I’d never
have guessed it.

I raised an eyebrow to see Harrington with a north-east team as
had assumed (wrongly) he would be precluded.

Hartlepool is about 30 mile away from Newcastle mind

Lord Elleray refereed at Arsenal a lot and he was only 10 odd
miles away from his mansion in Harrow…
Bennett from Orpington was a regular feature at Fulham too.
Again a shortish distance.
This locality nonsense has been around for ages and ages. They
are all very impartial and would never ever be biased due to
location unless they are a recognised fan of said club.

Also a nice short trip up the A19 for my Mr Harrington from
Hartlepool, wonder if that’s not allowed as he is based there
🤔 😂

Orpington to Selhurst Park, yes maybe, but if Steve Bennett had
been precluded from refereeing at Fulham because it is a
'shortish distance', he would have had similar problems with
neighbouring clubs such as Chelsea.

Going back even further, I was always delighted to see the
brilliant Joe Worrall from Warrington at Old Trafford - less
than 15 miles I'd have thought.
Even closer was another great referee, Neil Midgley, who I think
was noted as being from Salford. What I'm not sure was whether
Neil refereed at OT other than the Manchester derby.

That's because they had different rules in the old days!
