What’s even worse is the dreadful standard of commentary on the
BBC these days.
Jonathan Pearce shouldn’t be anywhere near a microphone at a
football stadium.

Very enjoyable match, full of fine goals and end to end
football.
Thought Andy Madley had a decent match in fairness, the red card
was a red card and a good intervention by the VAR team. I would
give him the benefit of the doubt for getting the decision wrong
in the first place, maybe the assistant was better placed to
help. The right decision was made in the end.
Do not get me started on the standard of football commentators
and pundits…..if I did comment I would get into a lot of trouble
so I’m not going to waste my breath!

Average from Madley, not bad but got the 2 big calls wrong, the
penalty and the red card - VAR intervened correctly for the
DOGSO.

It’s because he doesn’t get to the incident quick enough, he
needs more dynamic sprinting to sell the decision more

For once my involuntary rating (reply 7) was not an unpleasant
one, though it is not one I would have given.
I think it would have been very hard for Mr Madley to get the
big decision right in normal time - from the expected position
it would have been hard to judge where the offence took place -
and it would have been an exceptional AR who could have
intervened with absolute certainty. Even Martin Keown (said by
the commentator to have said it was outside all along) took
three views before wondering if it was outside, with another two
to confirm that it was. The right decision was reached - an
example of text-book application of VAR.

“These days” was referring to the steady decline in all
commentators, but notably Pearce who sometimes can’t even get
the laws of the game right.
Some commentators are ok in the grand scheme of things.
As for Dion Dublin, perhaps he should stick to looking at houses
and mansions.

Perhaps, too, they should be more selective about who they get
to make the draw. Tonight's performance was downright childish.
Sorry, that's not fair on children, who would undoubtedly have
done a better job.

I think its harsh to criticse Madley, at full speed it looked a
penalty, but VAR did its job and got the right decision.

VAR have overturned i, as he was nowhere near playing the ball.

Playing (or attempting to play) the ball is no longer the key
factor in double jeopardy DOGSO penalty incidents. It is
sufficient to attempt to challenge for it. This would have
stayed as a yellow card had it been a penalty.
The commentators tied themselves in knots due to their lack of
knowledge of the Laws and did no one any favours as a result. A
bad day for the BBC's coverage all round as they managed to miss
Leicester's comedy own goal live because they were showing a
replay of something utterly unimportant at the time.
