Tackle is generous! To me it was a kick. Love John McGinn to
bits (and his even better big brother) but he plays on the edge
and he let himself and his club down today.

Look to me like a kick at an opponent rather than a challenge
for the ball.
Excellent decision.

Too often you see a yellow for that, correct decision to send
him off.

Superb decision, and I always hate seeing these given as YC.
It’s not a ‘tackle’, as he doesn’t even pretend to go for the
ball. Just a deliberate hack / wild kick which could be SFP / VC
(I’d have said SFP initially) as the ‘tackle’ is dangerous /
endanger safety. No way it’s overturned.

Much as I'm delighted to see McGinn get a RC as this type of
foul seems to be a part of his game, and otherwise he seems to
spend the majority of matches winding up the opposition and
re-refereeing matches, I also fear this could get overturned on
appeal. Whilst the intent was unsavoury and it was reckless and
cynical, I've seen far worse tackles as yellow cards so feel
Villa will appeal

Whilst I feel Villa might appeal and it might be rescinded, just
to clarify this was a not a criticism of team ref at all. In
fact it's refreshing to see a RC issued directly rather than the
softer option of a YC and waiting for VAR to intervene.
